When it comes to performance, the Realme 6 is the real ‘Pro’. Here’s why

Highlights
  • Realme 6 packs the powerful MediaTek Helio G90T chipset compared to the Snapdragon 720G SoC of Realme 6 Pro
  • The MediaTek Helio G90T chip has outperformed the Snapdragon 720G in both processor performance as well as gaming capabilities
  • Realme 6 is also the most affordable smartphone offering a 90Hz display as well as 64MP quad-camera setup

Realme had unveiled its latest smartphones, the Realme 6 and Realme 6 Pro, about a month back. Both devices were praised highly for the incredible value for money they deliver. For example, both the Realme devices come with 90Hz displays, a feature usually found on flagship-grade smartphones. Both Realme phones also sport 64MP quad-cameras on the back, and come with big beefy batteries to keep them running all day long. Apart from that, both phones also house powerful chipsets under the hood. For the Realme 6, it is the MediaTek Helio G90T SoC, while the Realme 6 Pro has the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G SoC. Interestingly however, the Realme 6 comes across as a more attractive proposition than its Pro sibling. Here’s why the Realme 6 could be the real ‘Pro’.

Performance

Usually, the ‘Pro’ suffix in a smartphone’s moniker indicates a better performing device. However, it appears this is not the case as far as the Realme 6 series is considered. When computing and graphical benchmarks were run on both devices, it was discovered that the Realme 6’s MediaTek Helio G90T chipset fared better than the 6 Pro’s Snapdragon 720G SoC.

Running the AnTuTu benchmark on both the phones revealed that the Realme 6 had a score of 290483 as compared to the Realme 6 Pro’s score of 285167. It can be considered a significant difference in performance when you see that the Snapdragon 720G is made from a smaller manufacturing process than the G90T.

Graphics

Even on GFXBench, which is a benchmark that puts the graphics capabilities of the chipset through its paces, the Realme 6 Pro logged a lower score of 2,302 fps as compared to the Realme 6’s 2,780 fps. While the scores are not poles apart, the graphical prowess of the MediaTek Helio G90T is apparent when we run PUBG Mobile on both the devices. The G90T does not limit the graphics or frame rate options on the phone. You can set graphics settings to HDR, and the frame rate to Ultra or reduce the graphics to HD and turn up the frame rate to Extreme. This is not possible on the Snapdragon 720G, which limits the max frame rate to Ultra and the max graphics to HD while playing PUBG.

Something else that makes gaming more enjoyable on the Realme 6 is the MediaTek HyperEngine Game Technology, which is part of the MediaTek Helio G90T SoC. This allows for a boost in network speeds by Wi-Fi and LTE concurrency triggers, enabling 60 percent shorter GPU rendering time, support for HDR visuals, enhanced power efficiency, and dynamic management of CPU, GPU, and memory, resulting in a smoother and more immersive gaming experience for the user.

Display

As mentioned before, the Realme 6’s display offers a high refresh rate of 90Hz, meaning that the screen refreshes 90 times per second. In fact, the Realme 6 is the most affordable phone currently in the market to have this feature. For the uninitiated, a higher refresh rate display gives the notion of faster performance thanks to fluid animations and smoother navigation experience compared to the conventional 60Hz panels found on most smartphones available today. The MediaTek Helio G90T chipset includes support for 90Hz displays, allowing Realme to include this feature on its latest phones. Sure, the Realme 6 Pro also offers a 90Hz display, but the Realme 6 offers it for a lower price you see.

Cameras

Something else that makes the Realme 6 a real ‘Pro’ is the 64MP quad-camera setup that adorns the back of the phone. In fact, Realme 6 is the only phone priced under Rs 15,000 which offers such a high-resolution sensor. Thanks to the MediaTek Helio G90T which supports quad-camera setups and up to 64MP sensors, the Realme 6 offers a 64MP primary sensor, an 8MP ultra-wide-angle sensor with 119-degree field-of-view, a 2MP macro sensor, and a 2MP monochrome lens. The G90T’s fast AI-capabilities enable faster face detection, and help add depth to the photos in terms of scene optimisation and dynamic range. The Realme 6 Pro actually offers a better camera setup in comparison, but that said, the Realme 6 is hardly a slouch when it comes to camera prowess.

Apart from this, Realme 6 also matches its Pro sibling by packing in a 4,300mAh battery with support for 30W fast-charging, a feature that is seen mostly on upper mid-range and flagship smartphones.

To sum it up…

In terms of overall specs, the Realme 6 Pro definitely scores over the Realme 6. However, the Realme 6 can hold its own, especially in some crucial aspects like gaming performance. Furthermore, it can even match its pricier sibling when it comes to features like 90Hz refresh rate display and 30W fast charging, despite being priced lower. The phone is proper ‘Pro’ grade device, thanks to MediaTek’s gaming-focused G90T chipset. The Realme 6 is available for purchase via online and offline retail outlets for a starting price of Rs 13,999.
