“The teaser is unlikely to be of the Realme U2, since it has been barely six months since the U1 was launched in India”
Realme has posted a teaser video on its official Twitter handle, hinting at an upcoming launch. The teaser suggests a new U series smartphone, though it might now be an all-new handset. Going by the teaser, it can be safely speculated that the device in question is most likely going to be a high storage variant of the brand’s selfie smartphone, the Realme U1 (review).
While the teaser does not specify it, the ‘More For U’ tag on the tweet clearly indicates that the device is going to be from the Realme U lineup. The Realme U1 was launched only about six months ago and has a maximum of 64GB storage. This comes soon after the brand launched a new variant of the Realme C1 smartphone in India.
Other speculations, however, point at the possible launch of the Realme U2. The reason for this is the price cut that the Realme U1 recently received, with the two variants being now priced at Rs 9,999 and Rs 13,499. While the cheaper variant features 3GB RAM and 32GB storage, the pricier option gives users 4GB RAM and 64GB storage. If Realme does extend the storage options up to 128GB while keeping prices level, Realme may find renewed interest in the device, which still sports reasonably updated internals.
The Realme U1 is powered by a 6.3-inch full HD+ widescreen display, with 19.5:9 ratio. It is powered by the MediaTek Helio P70 SoC, along with a 25MP front camera, a 13MP + 2MP rear camera setup, and a 3,500mAh battery pack. The smartphone was launched just after the festive season in India, where the company enjoyed the best smartphone sales for a debut brand in India.
