Redmi Pro 2 alleged render reveals Snapdragon 855 SoC, pop-up selfie camera

“Redmi Pro 2 flagship smartphone is expected to come with Snapdragon 855, in-display fingerprint sensor, and a pop-up selfie camera.”

Even though Xiaomi‘s spin-off Redmi brand confirmed to launch a flagship smartphone powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 SoC soon, Lu Weibing in a recent Weibo post has requested not to ask him about the flagship as it is was “too early.” Amidst the confusion, a new render posted on Weibo shows the Redmi flagship, dubbed the Redmi Pro 2. The handset is expected to be powered by the Snapdragon 855, and feature a pop-up selfie camera to accommodate a notch less display.

The Redmi Pro 2, which was initially expected to a mid-range phone might turn out to be the company’s flagship when it launches. Xiaomi’s CEO Lei Jun was recently seen using the phone that matches the said description. The text from the render reveals the handset will have an in-display fingerprint sensor, which is another first for the Redmi brand. it might come in new gradient colours and pack a massive battery unit in-line with other Redmi phones. Earlier leaks suggest the Redmi Pro 2 might pack a 48MP primary camera and a second depth sensor for portrait shots. Nothing much is known about the Redmi flagship just yet and we can’t confirm the authenticity of the leak.

Given the brand’s two contradicting statements about the flagship in a short time span, we wouldn’t keep our hopes too high either at the moment. Redmi has launched three smartphones so far; the Redmi Note 7, Note 7 Pro, and the regular Redmi 7, which is its budget offering. It also launched other smart products such as the Redmi 1A washing machine and Redmi AirDot wireless earbuds with Bluetooth 5.0.
