Redmi 8 and Redmi 8A budget smartphones, which were recently launched India and China, have a ‘Sonic Dust Removal’ feature. As the name suggests, this feature can flush out the dust that tends to pile up in smartphone speakers using sonic waves. Redmi managed to achieve this by playing a 30-second custom sound designed to maximise the amplitude of the speaker. Redmi claims that it pushes out all the dust by pure force. Both the Redmi 8 and Redmi 8A smartphones pack a polycarbonate build and P2i nano-coating for splash resistance. To recall, the Redmi Note 8 Pro also has this feature.

To recall, the Redmi 8 and 8A smartphones sport a 6.22-inch HD+ IPS LCD displays with 19:9 aspect ratio, 720 x 1,520 pixels resolutions and Gorilla Glass 5 layer. They are powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 439 SoC with Adreno 505 GPU and run on Android 9.0 Pie with MIUI 10 custom skin on top. Both the phones measure 156.48×75.41×9.4mm and weigh 188 grams. While the Redmi 8 packs a traditional fingerprint sensor at the back, the cheaper Redmi 8A relies on face unlock for security.
In terms of optics, the Redmi 8 rocks dual-cameras consisting of a 12MP primary sensor with LED flash, and a 2MP secondary camera. On the other hand, the Redmi 8A has a single 12MP Sony IMX363 sensor with LED flash and Dual-Phase Detection autofocus. A 5,000mAh battery with 18W fast-charging support fuels both the Redmi 8 and Redmi 8A. Connectivity features include 4G VoLTE, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS + GLONASS, and USB Type-C for charging and data sync.
Coming to the prices, the Redmi 8A costs Rs 6,499 and Rs 6,999 for the 2GB and 3GB variants, respectively. The Redmi 8 price in India is set at Rs 7,999 for the base variant with 3GB RAM and 32GB storage, while the 4GB + 64GB variant costs Rs 8,999.
