Redmi 9A and Redmi 9C launched with new MediaTek Helio G-series chipsets: price, specifications

Redmi 9A and Redmi 9C have been launched in Malaysia and are Xiaomi’s newest budget smartphones following the Redmi 9. Both the phones share a few features in common such as a waterdrop display and a large 5,000mAh battery. But they are also quite different in terms of design and hardware. Notably, the Redmi 9C is the world’s first smartphone to be powered by the MediaTek Helio G35 chipset, beating the Realme C11 by a few hours as the latter is also expected to launch in Malaysia today. The Redmi 9A, on the other hand, happens to be the first smartphone to be powered bt the MediaTek Helio G25 chipset.

Redmi 9A and 9C price and availability

Redmi 9A price in Malaysia has been set at RM 359 (approx Rs 6,300) and the phone comes in Midnight Gray, Twilight Blue and Peacock Green colours. The Redmi 9C price is set at RM 429 (approx Rs 7,500) and will be available in the same colours as the Redmi 9A. Both the phones will go on sale in Malaysia through e-commerce platform Lazada in July.

Redmi 9A specifications

Redmi 9A sports a 6.53-inch HD+ (1600×720) LCD display and gets a waterdrop notch. The phone is powered by the new 2GHz MediaTek Helio G25 chipset, which aims to deliver a powerful gaming experience on budget phones like the Redmi 9A. The chipset is equipped with the HyperEngine technology and IMG PowerVR GE8320 GPU. This is paired with 2GB of RAM and 32GB internal storage. 

Redmi 9A gets a vertical camera module at the back that houses a single 13MP camera sensor and an LED flash. The phone gets a 5MP selfie camera up front and a triple card slot for dual SIM cards and a microSD card (up to 512GB). The Redmi 9A houses a 5,000mAh battery and runs on Android 10 with MIUI 11 on top.

Redmi 9C specifications

Redmi 9C sports a similar 6.53-inch HD+ (1600×720) LCD waterdrop display like the Redmi 9A. The phone gets a more powerful 2.3GHz MediaTek Helio G35 chipset that is equipped with the HyperEngine technology and IMG PowerVR GE8320 GPU. This is paired with 2GB RAM and 32GB internal storage with support for storage expandability via a microSD card. 

The Redmi 9C gets a square-shaped camera module on the back that includes a 13MP main camera, a 5MP ultra wide-angle lens and a 2MP depth sensor. There’s a 5MP selfie camera housed in the waterdrop notch up front. The phone houses a 5,000mAh battery and ships with Android 10-based MIUI 11.
