“Similar to the Realme X, the Redmi flagship is also expected to come in two variants”
There’s been a lot of buzz about Redmi’s flagship smartphone lately. Especially after Realme’s announcement of the Realme X launch date, it is expected that Redmi will try to counter the company’s move with a launch of its own flagship this month. And although it is not certain, a hint from Xiaomi General Manager of Smart Home Division, Tang Mu, could have revealed a potential launch date.
As per Chinese media sources, the official is hinting towards a 13th May launch date of the flagship smartphone, which has not been given an official name yet. Xiaomi’s Redmi flagship is expected to come with a serious value-for-money bargain and Realme’s official entry might have concerned the company. This could be one of the reasons we could see an early Redmi launch event. There’s also “one more thing” that will be revealed at the event besides the smartphone and given that Tang Mu heads the smart home devices division, it could be one of these gadgets with a Redmi branding.
As for the Redmi flagship, there have been a number of leaks that have hinted at a pop-up camera design similar to the Realme X. However, the handset has mostly evaded all prying eyes and stays in the shadows, as far as design is concerned. The latest information regarding the Redmi flagship is that it will feature an ultra-wide angle lens, as revealed by Redmi head Lu Weibing. He has also stated previously that the handset will have a 3.5mm headphone jack, NFC support, and will not be called Redmi X.
We’re expecting to see a triple camera setup on the Redmi flagship including a 48MP Sony IMX586 sensor. Other leaked specifications hint that the handset codenamed “Raphael” could rock a 6.39-inch FHD+ AMOLED display, 8GB of RAM, and 128GB built-in storage.
