Redmi Note 10 Pro Max price in India and specifications were announced a few days ago alongside the Redmi Note 10 Pro and Redmi Note 10. The series ranges from Rs 12,000 to Rs 22,000, offering impressive specifications for mid-range buyers. Redmi Note 10 Pro Max specifications, for example, include a Super AMOLED display, 120Hz refresh rate, and a 108MP camera. While the specs sheet is impressive, the Redmi Note 10 Pro Max misses out on one important feature that a phone like the Realme Narzo 30 Pro offers. The Redmi Note 10 Pro Max does not come with 5G support, while the more affordable Realme Narzo 30 Pro does.
Redmi Note 10 Pro Max does not come with 5G support
The Redmi Note 10 Pro offers impressive features at an attractive price, but it lacks 5G support. 5G phones are expected to be a standard in 2021 with 5G services promising to roll out later this year. Realme has been at the forefront when it comes to launching affordable 5G devices. In the span of three months, the company has launched the Realme X7 and Realme Narzo 30 Pro that offer 5G connectivity starting from as low as Rs 16,999.
The Rs 18,999 Redmi Note 10 Pro Max without 5G support would have been acceptable last year when the expectation of a 5G launch in India was still distant. In 2021, however, consumers purchasing a new long-term device are going to be looking for 5G support. While the Redmi Note 10 Pro and Redmi Note 10 Pro Max offer exceptional hardware and pricing that is unrivaled at the moment, the lack of 5G support may affect sales.
Sir mujhe do teen saal k liye phone lena tha but 5g ready hona chahiye tha na😢 now i m confuse itna zabardast phone but without 5g— mube (@mubashi46268439) March 4, 2021
Here’s one Twitter user, just one of many, writing that he is confused about buying the Redmi Note 10 Pro as it comes without 5G, which seems to be a legitimate concern for those looking at purchasing a new device for the next 2-3 years.
Why Redmi Note 10 Pro Max does not come with 5G support in India
In a reply to a Facebook comment, Xiaomi India head Manu Kumar Jain explained why the Redmi Note 10 series does not come with 5G support. He said that the company decided against 5G as services will take a few years to completely roll out in India. “We do have 5G phones. And happy to launch more. However, there is no 5G network in India. Even if the network gets auctioned at the end of this year, it will be easily at least 3-4 years by the time 5G comes to all parts of the country. By that time, you would have changed phones 2-3 times.”
Redmi Note 10 Pro Max lacks 5G, but should that bother you?
Xiaomi feels the Redmi Note 10 Pro Max without 5G should not bother potential buyers right now. The 5G roll out in India is not expected until later this year and even then 5G will be at its infancy in the country. The kind of speeds and low-latency that 5G connectivity promises will only be seen after a couple of years once telecom operators are able to provide widespread coverage. Moreover, 5G recharge packs will be pretty expensive compared to current tariffs, at least initially. All of this is to say that 5G mass adoption in India is still a few years away, by which time consumers will have upgraded from the Redmi Note 10 Pro Max to a 5G-ready Redmi phone.
Everything else that Redmi Note 10 Pro Max offers
Keeping aside the lack of 5G support at the moment, here’s a quick look at the Redmi Note 10 Pro Max specifications. The smartphone features a 6.67-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, 1200 nits peak brightness, and HDR10 support. The phone is powered by the Snapdragon 732G chipset paired with up to 8GB RAM and 128GB internal storage. The device runs on Android 11-based MIUI 12.
Redmi Note 10 Pro Max also touts a 108MP primary camera that is accompanied by an 8MP wide-angle lens, a 5MP macro lens, and a 2MP depth sensor. The phone packs a 5,020mAh battery and supports 33W fast charging. Connectivity options include dual 4G support, Wi-Fi 5G, 3.5mm headphone jack, and a Type-C port.
