The Redmi Note 10S was launched in the Indian market today. It comes as an advanced variant of the Redmi Note 10 that was launched in the country back in March. The Redmi Note 10S offers an upgraded rear camera setup compared to the Redmi Note 10 and it also comes with a different processor. And that is about it. So, the differences between the two smartphones are subtle. The question is, should you spend the extra money on the Redmi Note 10S, or does it make more sense to go with the vanilla Redmi Note 10. Well, that is what we are here to find out.
Redmi Note 10S vs Redmi Note 10: Prices in India
The Redmi Note 10S price in India starts at Rs 14,999 for the 6GB RAM + 64GB storage variant. The Redmi Note 10S is also available in 6GB+128GB configuration and it costs Rs 15,999. As for the Redmi Note 10, its price in India is Rs 12,499 for the base variant. It has 4GB RAM and 64GB storage. The 6GB+128GB model of the smartphone comes with a price tag of Rs 14,499.
If we compare the same RAM and storage variants of both smartphones, the Redmi Note 10 is Rs 1,500 cheaper than the Redmi Note 10S.
Redmi Note 10S vs Redmi Note 10: Specifications
The Redmi Note 10S and the Redmi Note 10 feature the same display panel, a 6.43-inch Super AMOLED unit with Full HD+ resolution, 60Hz refresh rate, 1,100 nits peak brightness, and Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection. The screen has a punch-hole mounted to the top-center portion of the screen. Since both smartphones have the same display, it is a tie between the two devices.

The camera is where the two smartphones differ from each other the most. While both devices have a quad-camera setup at the rear, the Redmi Note 10 has a 48MP primary camera and the Redmi Note 10S has a 64MP main sensor. Not that resolution is everything but if reviews are to be considered, the 64MP unit tends to offer slightly better picture quality than the 48MP camera.
Apart from the main sensor, both smartphones have an 8MP ultrawide, 2MP macro, and 2MP depth sensor. Both phones offer 4K video recording at 30fps with their primary sensors on the back. The selfie camera is also the same between the two smartphones, a 13MP unit. Since the Redmi Note 10S has a superior primary camera, it beats the Redmi Note 10 in the imaging department.

Processing power and software
The two smartphones also differ in the terms of the chipsets that they use. While the Redmi Note 10 comes with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 678 SoC, the newly-launched Redmi Note 10S comes with the MediaTek Helio G95 processor. The one from Qualcomm is made on an 11nm manufacturing process, whereas, the one from MediaTek is based on a 12nm process.
While both chipsets have almost similar performance, the MediaTek Helio G95 is slightly faster than the Snapdragon 678, especially in terms of graphics power. Although the difference isn’t much, the Redmi Note 10S takes the crown in the performance comparison. As for the software, both phones feature the Android 11 OS with MIUI 12, but the Redmi Note 10S ships with the newer MIUI 12.5.

The two smartphones also get stereo speakers, a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, a linear vibration motor, and also IP53 water and dust resistance rating. Since the Redmi Note 10S and the Redmi Note 10 have the same connectivity options and additional features, there is no clear winner here.

The Redmi Note 10S and the Redmi Note 10 feature the same display, front-facing camera, battery, connectivity options, and other additional features. However, the Redmi Note 10S beats the Redmi Note 10 when it comes to performance as well as in terms of image quality from the rear camera setup.
So, the Redmi Note 10S is clearly a better device among the two, at least on paper. That being said, the Redmi Note 10 is not too far behind. Its performance and the image quality from the rear camera setup are closely matched to the Redmi Note 10S. In our opinion, if you can spend Rs 1,500 extra, go with the Redmi Note 10S. If you can’t, you won’t regret buying the Redmi Note 10.
