Redmi Note 9, an affordable new smartphone from Xiaomi, was launched globally via an online event on Thursday alongside the Redmi Note 9 Pro. To recall, the latter was launched in India back in March. The vanilla Redmi Note 9, however, is a brand new phone and follows the Redmi Note 9S. The smartphone comes with a similar design as its elder siblings, including a punch-hole display and quad rear cameras at the back. Redmi Note 9 specifications include the MediaTek Helio G85 chipset, 48MP quad rear cameras, and 18W fast charging support. Meanwhile, the Redmi Note 9 Pro global model comes in a brand new Tropical Green dual-tone colour, while specifications remain more or less similar to the Indian variant.
Redmi Note 9 and Note 9 Pro price, availability
Redmi Note 9 price starts at $199 (approx Rs 15,000) for the 3GB RAM and 32GB storage variant and goes up to $249 (approx Rs 18,700) for the 4GB + 128GB option. The handset comes in Forest Green, Polar White and Midnight Grey colours.
Redmi Note 9 Pro price starts at $269 (approx Rs 20,100) for the base model with 6GB RAM and 64GB. It also comes in a 6GB + 128GB variant that costs $299 (approx Rs 22,400). The Redmi Note 9 and Note 9 Pro will be available globally starting May.
Redmi Note 9 specifications
The Redmi Note 9 specifications include a 6.53-inch FHD+ DotDisplay of LCD variety with full-HD+ resolution and punch-hole in the top right for the selfie camera. At the helm, there is MediaTek’s newest budget-centric Helio G85 chipset paired with up to 4GB of RAM and 128GB storage variant. The phone comes with microSD card slot to further expand the storage up to 512GB. Software-wise, the Redmi Note 9 boots Android 10-based MIUI 11 out of the box. A 5,020mAh battery with 18W fast charging support drives the entire setup.
As for the cameras, the phone feature quad setup at the back that comprises 48MP primary sensor. The front camera of the phone gets 13MP shooter for selfies and video calling. There is a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner for security, and in terms of connectivity, the phone features 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5, GPS + GLONASS, and USB Type-C port.
Redmi Note 9 Pro specifications
The Redmi Note 9 Pro sports a 6.67-inch DotDisplay with a FHD+ resolution and a centre-aligned punch-hole cutout. The smartphone is powered by the Snapdragon 720G chipset. The device houses a 5,020mAh battery and supports 30W fats charging. To recall, the Indian variant supports only 18W fast charging.
The Redmi Note 9 Pro sports a 64MP quad camera setup on the back and Gorilla Glass 5 protection. The punch-hole cutout houses a 16MP selfie camera. The phone gets a side-mounted fingerprint sensor. It will be offered in Glacier White, Interstellar Grey and Tropical Green colour options.
