“The Redmi device is expected to be a flagship offering from the brand with triple rear cameras and truly bezel-less display”
It’s no secret that Xiaomi’s spin-off brand Redmi is working on a flagship device powered by the mighty Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 SoC. The handset has been doing the rounds quite a bit lately, with the company’s VP Lu Weibing himself confirming a handful of its specifications. Most recently, Weibing posted on Weibo that the upcoming Redmi flagship will feature a 3.5mm headphone jack, which is having its last hurrah in the jack-less world. Now, Weibing has confirmed that the device could come with NFC support and wireless charging. He confirmed the features on separate Weibo posts.
That’s all the information we can divulge right now. However, going by the previous leaks and rumours, the Redmi device (exact name not known at the moment) is expected to have an edge-to-edge display with no notch or bezel whatsoever. For photography, the device will reportedly pack a 48-megapixel sensor paired with a second depth sensor for portrait shots and perhaps even an ultra-wide angle lens. Lastly, the phone would likely have a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor for security.
The launch of the premium smartphone from Redmi is expected over the coming months, though nothing official has been announced yet. We expect to learn more details as we inch closer to the launch event. Separately, the company is all set to the launch Redmi Y3 smartphone – the third installment of its selfie-centric series – on April 24th.
