All the highlights from Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Jio announcement

“Happy New Year offer, home delivery of SIMs, JioMoney and more”

RIL Chairman and Managing Director Mukesh Ambani announced today that Reliance Jio’s free data offer would be extended until March 31st, 2017 under the company’s Happy New Year’ offer. Apart from this, Ambani also made several other significant announcements during his speech. Here are all the highlights:

  • With over 52 million subscribers, Reliance Jio is the fastest growing technology company in the world, beating even Facebook, WhatsApp and Skype
  • Reliance Jio has introduced Aadhar-based eKYC (electronic Know Your Customer) in 2 lakh outlets, enabling paperless, digital activations for new subscribers in under five minutes
  • Home delivery of Reliance Jio SIM cards has been started along with eKYC for instant activation
  • New subscribers can avail of Mobile Number Portability (MNP) to retain their existing number while porting to Jio 
  • The Welcome Offer with free data, voice and Jio apps will be available until December 31st, 2016
  • However, starting December 4th, Jio will be introducing a ‘Happy New Year’ offer for new subscribers which will be valid until March 31st, 2017
  • The Happy New Year offer will largely have all the benefits of the Welcome Offer, except that daily data usage will be capped from 4GB to 1GB per day. Post exhaustion of the limit, the speed will drop to 128kbps
  • Existing users on the Welcome Offer will be automatically shifted to the Happy New Year offer on January 1st, 2017
  • The benefits of the Happy New Year offer will be available to all users who sign up for Reliance Jio until March 3rd, 2017
  • Jio is introducing affordable tariff plans for subscribers who want more than 1GB of data per day, which customers can recharge through their JioMoney digital wallet
  • Reliance Jio is also introducing the JioMoney Merchant App for all merchants starting December 5th
  • Customers can use their JioMoney e-wallets to pay merchants, and merchants can use the JioMoney Merchant App to transfer the payments to their bank accounts
