Reliance Jio reportedly gained 17.6 lakh users while Airtel and Vi together lost 14.5 lakh subscribers in October 2021. This secures Reliance Jio’s lead in the market strengthening its market share as the largest telecom provider in India currently. Reliance Jio, Airtel, and Vi recently revised their respective prepaid unlimited plans throughout India with an average of up to 25 per cent price hike across various plans. Reliance Jio however has maintained an edge when it comes to pricing. Reliance Jio also recently rolled out a newly revised plan worth Re 1 and enables users to access 10MB of data for a day.

Reliance Jio maintains a leading market share

Reliance Jio is the current market leader when it comes to the telecom industry in India while Airtel and Vi are the other two players following behind. The leading telecom provider, Reliance Jio has added 17.6 lakh users in the month of October this year, and currently enjoys a total of 42.65 crore subscribers in India. This comes after Reliance Jio recorded a steep decline of 1.9 crore users in September 2021 – a first since the telecom provider’s steady rise in the industry since its operations began back in 2016. 

Airtel and Vi are the next two prominent telecom service providers in India and jointly lost 14.5 lakh. According to TRAI’s October 2021 report, Bharti Airtel lost out on 4.89 lakh users. Airtel continues to hold 35.39 crore users under its umbrella. Vi lost out on 9.64 lakh users in October 2021 and maintains a market share of 26.9 crore users. It will be interesting to see how Jio, Airtel, and Vi continue following the recent hike in tariff prices.
