On its dedicated FAQ page, the company has described the benefits of fiber optic over the traditional cables as follows:

1) JioFiber provides faster internet connection.

2) Fiber networks are not required to be changed post installation as the companies upgrade them with latest technology that creates the electronic light pulses and not by replacing the fiber cables.

3) JioFiber’s ultra-fast download and upload speeds enable UHD, video conferencing and a variety of camera application usage and experience seamlessly.

Talking about the plans, currently, the company is providing JioFiber preview offer, which promises 100Mbps download speeds for 90 days, with a monthly FUP limit of 100GB and complimentary access to a host of Jio’s premium apps. Once this quota is over, customers can get a complimentary data top-up of 40 GB via the MyJio App or through Jio.com. “As this is a preview offer, there are no installation charges levied, but there is a refundable security deposit of Rs 4,500 payable for the ONT device (GigaHub Home Gateway). This amount needs to be paid through debit /credit card, Jio Money or Paytm,” the company says on its website.

This same deposit will be refunded at the time of discontinuation of the service. The refund will be subject to the condition of installed devices, as per the company. Currently, the JioFiber services are only prepaid but the company says that it plans to launch the JioFiber post-paid service in due course of time.

Interestingly, the company also announced the launch of Jio Gigarouter and Jio GigaTV calling at the event. With the former, users will be able to watch over 600 channels in UHD resolution. With Jio GigaTV calling, the brand’s users will be able to place video calls to other TVs that will be connected by the company’s JioGigaFiber service.
