Samsung is all set to the launch Galaxy A8s as the world’s first smartphone with a hole in the display to house the selfie camera. The Samsung Galaxy A8s launch event will be held in China and an official forum post shows the smartphone with a small cutout in the top-left corner for the front camera. The Samsung Galaxy A8s had first been teased by the company in October with a full-screen display and no notch; however, the punch hole camera was not apparent in the teaser image shared back then.

The Samsung Galaxy A8s launch event will be live streamed for fans across the world to see the unveiling of the world’s first phone with a hole in the display. The company has scheduled the event for 4pm China time, which translates to 1:30pm IST. You can watch the Galaxy A8s launch live stream on the Samsung China website as well as the Galaxy Club forum.

Key Samsung Galaxy A8s specifications were recently leaked by Chinese certification site TENAA. The world’s first Infinity O smartphone will have a 6.39-inch display with a full-screen design, 3,300mAh battery, and dual SIM, dual standby functionality. There will be triple camera sensors on the back, reportedly with 24-megapixel + 5-megapixel + 10-megapixel resolutions. The selfie camera sensor is said to have a 24-megapixel sensor. Other key Galaxy A8s specifications leaked so far include Snapdragon 710 SoC, 6GB of RAM, 128GB internal storage, and microSD support for storage expansion.
In terms of design, the smartphone includes a gradient back panel and a pill-shaped fingerprint sensor on the rear. The smartphone has a dedicated Bixby button on the left edge and the Power and Volume buttons on the right edge. There is also a vertically aligned cameras and LED flash, with a yellow ring circling the middle camera sensor.
Samsung is all set to become the first brand in the world to unveil a smartphone with a hole in the display to place the selfie camera with the Galaxy A8s launch, but it is not alone working on this display tech. Huawei Nova 4 and Lenovo Z5s are also in the works with a similar punch hole design for the selfie camera, with launches scheduled for December 17th and December 18th. Honor has also teased the launch of a smartphone with a similar design in Paris on January 22nd.
