- Samsung Galaxy Fold 2 will still keep the same form factor as the original Fold
- The foldable phone may not come with S Pen support as previously rumoured
- It is also said to weigh 15 percent less than its predecessor at 229 grams
The Samsung Galaxy Fold 2 is expected to launch some time this year, although a precise timeline is unclear right now due to the coronavirus pandemic. The Galaxy Fold 2 is widely expected to look similar to its predecessor and may even come with the same form factor. A new report now suggests that the Fold 2 will be lighter than the original Fold and the device may not come with S Pen support as previously rumoured. According to a blog post, the upcoming Galaxy Fold 2 may come in the original two colours planned for the predecessor, which were Martian Green and Astro Blue.
As we cannot verify the authenticity of the blog post, it’s best to take the report with a pinch of salt. It claims the Galaxy Fold 2 will keep the same form factor as the original Fold meaning that it is expected to open up like a book. However, the external screen size is going to be increased. To recall, the original Galaxy Fold had a secondary display on the cover that was surrounded by thick bezels on the top and bottom. We expect to see a taller display and smaller bezels on the successor.
There was a rumour building up about possible S-pen support on the Fold 2 but it seems that it might not be the case after all. S Pen support would be good to see considering the tablet-like usability of the Galaxy Fold series. Apart from this, the device is also said to weigh 15 percent less at 229gm than the original Fold which weighed 263gm.
To make the Galaxy Fold 2 more affordable for consumers, it is believed to come in several memory configurations. There is no launch date yet for the Galaxy Fold 2. The device may be announced alongside the Galaxy Note 20 series later this year, but this is mere speculation at the moment. An earlier report from South Korean media claims that the upcoming foldable phone is codenamed “Champ” and it will come with an under-display camera technology.
