“The Galaxy Note series has completed nine years with the launch of the Galaxy Note 9 last year.”
Samsung’s Galaxy Note series has always been symbolized by the S Pen that is unique to the handset in the flagship territory. Samsung has come a long way in improving the S Pen in both its hardware and software aspects to make it a handy accessory. Nonetheless, the pen still remains a niche accessory. However, if a patent spotted at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office is any indication, the South Korean giant might take the S Pen functionality to a whole new level. As reported by Patently Mobile, the granted certificate shows the S Pen could come with a camera and an efficient optical zoom feature.
The images suggest the camera could be fitted inside the button on the top-side of the pen. A separate camera/zoom activation key also seems to be there on the sides as depicted in the patent images. There could either be a single lens or even more than one to achieve the optical zoom with the S Pen.
Samsung actually applied for the patent back in February 2017 and it has just been granted approval this week. While not all patents tend to make it to an actual product, previous advances with the S Pen indicate that Samsung could be giving this patent a serious thought. The Galaxy Note 9 pen came with an all-new feature to click snaps and control slides with the press of a button, hence it would seem that this is the next step in the evolution of the S Pen. Additionally, the accessory could also end up in more Samsung notebooks and PCs.
