“Samsung Galaxy S10 E could be the name of the base model in the Galaxy S10 lineup, according to a retailer”
The fact that Samsung will be launching at least three models of its flagship Galaxy S10 series has been more or less confirmed. These will include a budget variant, vanilla model, and a bigger model, with a 5G-capable variant rumoured to launch soon afterwards. Now thanks to a new development we know the name of the budget entrant. Notably, the information comes around the same time as the first teaser for the Galaxy S10 was released.
The entry point to the Galaxy S10 lineup will reportedly carry the moniker Samsung Galaxy S10 E, instead of Galaxy S10 Lite, as was previously thought. This information comes courtesy one of the long-standing Chinese suppliers of UK-based online retailer Mobile Fun. Now as to what the letter “E” implies or means, no one knows but one possibility could be that it stands for “economical” but it’s highly unlikely. And it could also be that Samsung doesn’t offer any explanation with the name, something Apple’s been doing with its iPhones. The Cupertino giant has previously said that the iPhone model names don’t particularly stand for anything.
In terms of specifications, Galaxy S10 E expected to sport a 5.8-inch (1080×2280 pixels) display with a hole drilled in the glass to accommodate the front camera, something Samsung calls an Infinity-O display. The model was recently spotted on Geekbench running Qualcomm’s octa-core Snapdragon 855 SoC clocked at 1.78GHz paired with 6GB of RAM. The listing further revealed that the device, carrying model number SM-G970U will run Android 9 Pie out of the box.
Other details leaked previously include a side-mounted fingerprint reader but no in-display fingerprint sensor, dual camera setup at the back and a single selfie camera, and wireless charging support. Another major differentiator between the Galaxy S10 E and the other premium models will be the display. While the vanilla models will feature a curved display, the budget offering will come with a flat display.
