“The Galaxy S10 is expected to come with a truly edge-to-edge display and selfie camera hole punched into the screen”
The Samsung Galaxy S10 smartphone has been doing the rounds of the internet quite a bit lately. The flagship handset from the chaebol has been the subject of a number of leaks and rumours. Most recently, it was reported that one of the S10 models will come with a truly bezel-less edge-to-edge display, a punched-hole style selfie camera, triple rear cameras, and in-display fingerprint sensor. Now, more information about the phone has surfaced online.
The Samsung Galaxy S10 is widely is rumoured to come with Infinity O display that Samsung recently unveiled at its Development Conference 2018. According to ITHome, citing TheElec as the source, the Galaxy S10 will come with a tweaked system UI to hide the in-display selfie camera while playing videos. This is an interesting way to deliver a user experience that remains uninterrupted despite a hole in the display panel. The current crop of Android phones black out the display to hide the notch.
In order, to provide the uninterrupted full-screen experience to users, the Galaxy S10 will reportedly have a new UI with new optimisations for the status bar signal, notification icon, time, battery etc. The company is yet to confirm, but the handset is likely to boot the latest One UI over Android 9 Pie out of the box. The report also claims that Samsung will punch the hole in the display using DPSS (diode-pumped solid-state) laser.
Based on previous reports, the Galaxy S10 is expected to rock the proprietary 8nm Exynos 9820 SoC with dedicated NPU support. The triple cameras at the back are tipped to feature a standard lens, a wide-angle lens and a telephoto lens. The phonemaker is expected to ship the device in three configurations: 4GB + 64GB, 6GB + 64GB, and 6GB + 128GB. Moreover, the phone is likely to come with an ultra-sonic in-display fingerprint sensor.
The company is expected to launch the handset in three variants – a Galaxy S10 Lite, Galaxy S10, and Galaxy S10 Plus – in February next year at Mobile World Congress. This will reportedly be followed by the launch of Galaxy S10 5G variant and Galaxy F foldable phone in March.
