Samsung Galaxy S10 5G variant’s name leaked, said to offer 12GB of RAM

“The top variant of the Samsung Galaxy S10 series will be named Galaxy S10 X and come with a mammoth 12GB of RAM, 5G support, and 6.44-inch display”

Samsung is expected to unveil its next-gen Galaxy S10 series flagships at some point in March next year, likely at MWC 2018. The brand is said to have three variants of the smartphone in the works, but a couple of new reports emerging out of China claim there will actually be four Samsung Galaxy S10 options to choose from. Along with that, the leaks allegedly reveal the names of the four variants and their key configurations, with the kicker being that the top-end model with 5G support will come with a mammoth 12GB of RAM.

Samsung Galaxy S10 RAM leak

According to a report by Lei Technology, the four variants of Samsung’s flagship series will be named Galaxy S10, Galaxy S10 Plus, Galaxy S10 X, and Galaxy S10 X 5G. The four variants will come with 4GB, 6GB, 8GB and 12GB of RAM respectively. The top model, of course, would trounce Xiaomi’s Mi Mix 3 and Black Shark Helo smartphones in the RAM department, overshadowing their 10GB RAM options. But the Samsung Galaxy S10 X 5G won’t be alone in that regard because the image shared by Lei Technology also shows that the Huawei P30 Pro will come with 12GB of system memory as well, while the P30 model would be relegated to 8GB of RAM.

A separate report by verified Weibo account IT Station, the Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus will have a 5.8-inch display – a smaller panel than the one seen on Galaxy S9+. The report also mentions that the Galaxy S10 X 5G will be the one to have a 6.44-inch display. It can, thus, be speculated that Samsung in 2019 might keep the 5.8-inch display for Galaxy S10 and Galaxy S10 Plus, while the two Galaxy S10 X series models will be the ones to sport the larger 6.44-inch screen.

The IT Station report reiterates previously leaked features such as the ultrasonic in-display fingerprint sensor for the Galaxy S10 Plus, the Galaxy S10 X variants, and the Galaxy Note 10. This ultrasonic sensor will take up a third of the display panel, the report claims. The Galaxy S10 Plus and Galaxy S10 X models are, once again, claimed to have a triple rear camera setup, with 16MP + 13MP + 12MP sensors.

Lastly, SamMobile reports says that the Samsung Galaxy S10’s base variant will arrive with 128GB of storage as the minimum. However, it is not clear if the vendor will be launching a 256GB memory variant of the handset or not. Notably, the current-gen Galaxy S flagship, the Galaxy S9, is available in a 256GB storage model.

Moving on, the Samsung Galaxy S10 is expected to be the world’s first smartphone to flaunt UFS 3.0 type storage. At the recent Qualcomm 4G/5G Summit in Hong Kong, Samsung has confirmed that products with UFS 3.0 memory type will be launched in the first half of 2019. While the brand didn’t mention Galaxy S10 at the event, one of these phones could be the premium Galaxy S10 with the newer UFS (Universal Flash Storage).

The UFS 3.0 storage standard was introduced earlier this year. If the Galaxy S10 certainly arrives with the new standard, then it will have double the memory bandwidth than UFS 2.1. Since UFS 3.0 is said to be available in just 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB variants, it’s quite possible that only the 5G-enabled variant of the Galaxy S10 will feature it. The world’s first smartphones with 1TB of internal storage are coming in 2021, flash memory maker Micron said at the event.

The Galaxy S10 model is expected to come with a dual rear camera setup; the Galaxy S10+, Galaxy S10 X, and Galaxy S10 X 5G are said to flaunt two camera sensors on the front. We can also expect the phones to be powered by the latest Qualcomm and Exynos processors, and boot Android 9.0 Pie out of the box. Unfortunately, there’s no word regarding the pricing of the upcoming Samsung flagships at the moment.
