Samsung has finally revealed the Galaxy S22 series global launch date. Matching up with the rumours, the South Korean giant has scheduled the Unpacked event for February 9th 2022. The teaser image posted by the company has confirmed the Galaxy S22 moniker for the first time and says ‘breakthrough the night’ and ‘break the rules of light’, which could be hinting at impressive night mode photos. We can probably expect more such teasers leading up to the launch. Recently, Samsung president TM Roh has hinted the brand will merge the Galaxy Note series into the Galaxy S lineups and launch the most noteworthy S series phone, probably the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra and it may come with S Pen support.
Like with most events these days, the Samsung Galaxy Unpacked will also be an online-only affair. The lineup is expected to include the Samsung Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22 Plus, and the mighty Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra. There are rumours the brand might introduce the Galaxy Tab S8 and Tab S8 Plus at the same event, though that can’t be said for certain at the moment. The Samsung Galaxy S22 series will come with the in-house Exynos 2200 chipset and Snapdragon 8 Gen1 chipset, depending on region.
Samsung Galaxy S22 series specifications
As for the leaked Samsung Galaxy S22 series specifications, the vanilla model is said to come with a 6.06-inch FHD+ LTPS display with a 120Hz refresh rate and a punch-hole design. While the Galaxy S22+ will have a slightly bigger 6.55-inch screen with the same LTPO panel and 120Hz refresh rate. Lastly, the Galaxy S22 Ultra could get a bigger 6.81-inch LTPO 120Hz AMOLED display. Other display features could include a punch-hole cutout, Corning Gorilla Victus layer, HDR10+, and Dolby Vision.
The Samsung Galaxy S22 series will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset paired with Adreno GPU in the US and a few other select markets. The India models could come with the Exynos 2200 chipset paired with up to 16GB LPDDR5x RAM and 512GB UFS 3.1 internal storage that could be further expandable. They are likely to boot Android 12 OS with OneUI 4.0 custom skin out of the box. The phones could be equipped with in-display fingerprint sensors, Samsung Pay, DeX, Bixby voice assistant, IP68 rating, and Dolby Atmos audio.
Connectivity options will reportedly include 5G, 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, GPS, and USB Type-C port for charging and data sync. The Galaxy S22, Plus, and Ultra models are said to come with 3,700mAh battery, 4,500mAh, and 5,000mAh batteries, with up to 45W fast charging support.
The Samsung Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S22+ are said to feature a 50MP primary sensor, a 12MP telephoto unit, and a 12MP ultra-wide-angle lens. Lastly, the Galaxy S22 Ultra could get a quad-camera setup on the back with a 108MP SuperClear lens, a 12MP ultra-wide lens, and two 10MP telephoto lenses with 3x and 10x zoom and OIS support. It could get a 40MP selfie snapper on the front.
