Highlights
  • The Galaxy S25 Edge is the ultra-thin smartphone from Samsung.
  • The Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2 has reportedly survived drops of up to 1 meter.
  • Besides improved strength, the new display cover is said to retain “high optical transparency”.

Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge is set to launch on May 13th as the slimmest Galaxy smartphone to date. Ahead of its official unveiling, Samsung has confirmed a key feature of the upcoming smartphone: its advanced display protection. The device will be the world’s first to feature Corning Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2, which is said to withstand minor drops and improve durability, all while maintaining the device’s sleek and slim profile.

Here’s everything you need to know about the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge and its Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2 protection.

  • Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2 combines Corning’s advanced glass technology with Samsung’s proprietary processing and reinforcement technologies.
  • The new glass protection is said to be sleek, considering the phone is meant to be very slim. And as expected out of a new Gorilla Glass, the Ceramic 2 is called “reliably strong”.
  • Here, strength refers to “improved toughness,” enhanced “damage resistance,” and “crack deflection capabilities” of this display cover.
  • In Corning’s lab tests, the Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2 has reportedly survived drops of up to 1.0 meters on a concrete-like surface. In comparison, the company points out that the competing glasses have failed even drops from a height of half a meter or less.
  • Corning says it has intricately embedded crystals within the glass matrix and, for synergy, the glassmaker has used its proprietary ion exchange process.
  • Besides strength and durability, Corning also claims the Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2 can retain “high optical transparency”.

On the back, meanwhile, the Galaxy S25 Edge is rumoured to feature Gorilla Glass Victus 2. These two glasses could be held together by a titanium alloy frame. Rumours suggest the phone will be only 5.83mm thick. It could be available in Titanium Icyblue, Titanium Silver, and Titanium Jetblack shades and sport a 6.55-inch 120Hz AMOLED display on the front with 2,600 nits peak brightness.
