Samsung Galaxy Unpacked 2020: Galaxy Note 20 series, Galaxy Z Fold 2, and everything else expected

Samsung has Galaxy Unpacked 2020 event scheduled on August 5th where it’s expected to take the wraps off a slew of new hardware, including the much-awaited Samsung Galaxy Note 20 series. Like most other launch events this year, the Samsung Galaxy Unpacked event has also been shifted online and will be livestreamed via the company’s social media accounts and YouTube channel. We’ll be taking a look at all the devices Samsung is expected to launch at the event. If rumours are anything to go by, the vendor may take wraps off the all-new Galaxy Z Fold 2 (aka Galaxy Fold 2) smartphone, Galaxy Watch 3, and more alongside the next-gen Galaxy Note smartphones.

Here is everything expected from Samsung Galaxy Unpacked 2020:

Samsung Galaxy Note 20 series

The next-gen Note-series smartphone is expected to be called Samsung Galaxy Note 20. The rumours about the handset have been doing the rounds of the rumour mill for quite some time. This year the smartphone is said to come in three models, namely Samsung Galaxy Note 20, Samsung Galaxy Note 20+, and Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra, and tout the same boxy design with sharp corners with Infinity-O display as its predecessor Samsung Galaxy Note 10 series.

Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra - Black

As far as the specifications go, the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 series will reportedly ship with Dynamic AMOLED display with centred punch-hole atop, up to 120Hz refresh rate, and QHD+ resolution. The handsets are expected to be powered by Exynos 990/ Snapdragon 865 SoC paired with fast LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 storage that may be expandable via a microSD card. Software-wise, the Note 20 series will run Android 10-based One UI 2.0 out of the box. Additionally, at least one if not all Samsung Galaxy Note 20 models may come with 108MP quad rear cameras, up to 45W fast wired charging tech, 25W wireless charging, and 9W reverse wireless charging support. The Samsung Galaxy Note 20 series price is tipped to start at Rs 87,700 in Europe. The handsets may release in green, bronze, and black colour options and could launch in India on August 28th.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 is expected to be the star of Samsung’s event. The handset will be the successor to the original Galaxy Fold smartphone from last year. Although the phone’s design is said to be inspired by its predecessor, it may come with a new bezel-less avatar. Both primary (inner) display and cover (outer) display of the phone is tipped to feature a punch-hole screen with no awkward or thick bezels. The handset has been tipped to fold horizontally and sport triple camera setup in a rectangular module and a hinge at the back.

Talking about the specifications, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 could ship with a 7.7-inch AMOLED 120Hz primary foldable display and a 6.23-inch secondary display. The triple camera setup on the rear could feature 12MP + 64MP + 12MP sensors, while the inner selfie cam is said to flaunt 10MP snapper. Apart from this, the phone may ship with 512GB storage onboard, 5G support, a 4,356mAh battery, and support for 15W wireless charging. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 could be launched with a sticker price of $1,980 (~Rs 1,48,000).

Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 series

Samsung is also expected to refresh its Samsung Galaxy Tab S-series lineup at the event. The new tablet will reportedly be dubbed as Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 and is said to come with a ‘+’ variant as well. The Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 and S7+ both are rumoured to be flagship tablets with Snapdragon 865 Plus SoCs ticking at their core coupled with at least 6GB of RAM and 128GB storage. 

The tablets are also expected to feature 120Hz screens, wireless DeX support, and new S Pens. The notable differences between Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 and Tab S7+ are rumoured to be screen size and quality. While the regular tablet is said to sport an 11-inch screen of LCD variety, the Tab S7+ may sport 12.4-inch AMOLED display. The Samsung Galaxy Tab S7+ will pack a 9,800mAh battery.

Samsung Galaxy Buds Live

Galaxy Buds Live is expected to be the upcoming TWS earphones from the house of Samsung. The earbuds will reportedly be dramatically different from their predecessors, in terms of design. As per the leaks and rumours, the Samsung Galaxy Buds Live earphones will be sleek, legume-like, and ship in a squarish instead of pill-shaped charging case. Talking about the specifications, the buds may include touch-sensitive bodies to toggle between tracks, as many as three microphones, ANC, and a battery life that is estimated to fall between 4.5 and 7.5 hours on a single charge. The Samsung Galaxy Buds Live to cost around Rs 16,600 in Europe.

Samsung Galaxy Watch 3

Samsung Galaxy Watch family is also rumoured to get a new member, allegedly dubbed as Samsung Galaxy Watch 3. The wearable is said to come in two sizes: 45mm version with a 1.4-inch screen and 41mm model with a 1.2-inch display. Both variants will come with several finishes, Samsung’s classic rotating bezel for navigating around the UI, and a bunch of other improvements from its predecessor.
