Samsung is expected to introduce two new foldables apart from the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7 this year. A new report has divulged the launch timeline of the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Z Flip FE and the Galaxy tri-fold smartphone. The report aligns with earlier leaks that suggested a delay in the launch of the Galaxy Z Flip FE.
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip FE and Galaxy tri-fold launch delayed
- The latest report also comes from The Bell, a well-known South Korean media outlet that previously revealed the launch timeline.
- The report cites an industry source who revealed to the publication that Samsung Display has begun producing displays for the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7. The foldable OLED panels follow an almost identical front-end manufacturing process to regular OLED panels. It has only slight differences in the back-end process.
- Samsung Electronics is expected to start the production of the foldables in May 2025. Both the flagship foldables are expected to launch globally, including in India, in Q3 of 2025.
- The Bell adds that the Galaxy Z Flip FE and Galaxy tri-fold might be unveiled in Q4 of 2025. Initially, the Galaxy Flip FE and Galaxy Z tri-fold were expected to be unveiled alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7.
- The primary reason suggested for the delay in the launch of the Galaxy Z Flip FE was the yield issues faced by Samsung Foundry for the Exynos 2500 SoC. The chipset was initially intended for the standard Galaxy S25 series but was subsequently dropped owing to yield issues.
- However, another report contradicts this, suggesting that the Galaxy Z Flip FE could feature the Exynos 2400e SoC, the same chip used in the Galaxy S24 FE.
Samsung Galaxy tri-fold: all we know so far
- The Galaxy tri-fold could launch under the ‘Galaxy G Fold’ branding and is expected to be priced significantly higher than the Galaxy Z foldables.
- It is tipped to sport a 9.96-inch display and weigh 298 grams.
- The device will feature an inward folding mechanism which will increase its thickness.
- The tri-fold device could also measure 6.54 inches tall when fully folded.
