So far, getting your hands on a Reliance Jio SIM card required you to purchase a LYF-branded smartphone from the company. According to a report by TechPP, this is set to change, at least for some Samsung users. The Korean giant is offering a “Jio Preview” offer to both its new and existing customers.
As a part of the offer, users of select Samsung smartphones will be entitled to get unlimited HD voice and video calling, SMS and high-speed mobile data on a Jio SIM. The offer also allows use of Jio’s premium apps like JioPlay, JioOnDemand and JioBeats, among others. These benefits will be applicable free of cost for a period of three months. The smartphones that will be eligible for the offer include the 2015 and 2016 editions of the Galaxy A5 and Galaxy A7, along with the Galaxy A8. The flagship S series from the Galaxy S6 onwards, and the Note series from the Note 4 onwards are also eligible for the offer.
In order to make use of the offer, users need to download the MyJio app on any eligible smartphone, and tap on “Get Jio SIM” inside the app. You will then be presented with a coupon code with limited validity. What’s left now is to get the required documents and head on to your nearest Reliance store to get your new Jio SIM. After you receive the SIM, you can insert it into your phone and verify it by calling 1977. You can then activate the preview offer inside the MyJio app.
The fact that this offer is also extended to existing users makes it particularly enticing, at least for those of us looking to try Jio’s 4G services. That said, it’s worth noting that the offer may not be available in all areas. Reliance Jio is expected to shake down the telecom industry when it launches commercially sometime this December.
