Samsung tri-fold phone’s design spotted in latest One UI 8 build: here’s what you need to know

Highlights
  • You first fold the blank left panel inwards, and then the right part folds inward on top of that blank panel.
  • The rear design includes four cameras, one of which is a punch-hole camera on the middle screen.
  • Samsung could call this form factor “Multifold” and not tri-fold, since it technically folds twice.

Besides the Galaxy Z Fold 7, Galaxy Z Flip 7, and the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE, Samsung is expected to announce a premium tri-fold phone, likely called the ‘Galaxy G Fold’, at the Galaxy Unpacked event on July 9th, 2025. Well, ahead of the event, the tri-fold’s design has been spotted on a recent One UI 8 build. Folks over at Android Authority have found this, and those amongst you interested in the new folding form can get an idea of what this device could look like. Check out!

As you can see in the video above, the tri-fold has two hinges. Based on Samsung’s prototypes (like the Flex G), it appears the device folds the leftmost and rightmost screens inward.

This design offers a bigger inner display compared to a standard book-form folding phone like the Galaxy Z Fold 6 or 7. The rightmost screen has a punch hole.

The middle portion of the back is also a screen with a punch-hole camera. Samsung seems to have ditched the under-display camera for this phone.

The left part of the back has a triple camera island. So, in total, you could get four cameras on the back side.

The left part of the front side is a blank panel and not a screen. You first fold the left part, then the right part folds on top of that blank panel.

We also note that the hinges are differently sized, probably for a safe folding mechanism.

And that’s about we gather from this clip. Rest, based on past leaks and rumours, we believe the Galaxy G Fold has a 9.96-inch display and weighs 298 grams. When it is fully folded, it is said to be 6.54 inches tall. The multi-fold mechanism also means the device could be thicker than the prevailing Galaxy foldables.

Samsung also has an S-shaped folding phone concept called the Flex S. It also has two hinges and three segments. The left segment (screen) folds outward over the centre segment (back panel), and the right segment (screen) folds inwards on top of the centre segment (screen). This could function like the Huawei Mate XT.

Since all these folding phones have two hinges and they don’t technically fold thrice, Samsung may not call the new formats tri-fold. The animation files found by Android Authority have the name “Multifold 7”. We aren’t sure if this is just an internal codename or a marketing name.

Needless to say, we can confirm these details only after Samsung makes an official announcement.
