At last month’s Galaxy Unpacked event, Samsung teased its tri-fold phone for the first time ever. The device has been doing the rounds of the rumour mill for some time now. The South Korean brand’s plans seem to have spiked after Huawei’s Mate XT that released last year. In the latest development, a leak out of Korea sheds light on the name of the company’s tri-fold phone along with fresh details about the hardware.
Samsung tri-fold phone’s name and more details emerge
- The latest information about Samsung’s tri-fold phone has been brought by blogger Yuex1122 citing industry sources and display analyst Ross Young on South Korean platform Naver.
- The device will reportedly be called as Galaxy G Fold. This would be quite different compared to the company’s existing Galaxy Z lineup.
- It’s unclear why Samsung would go with this naming scheme but we believe it could be because of the folding mechanism.
- Rumours suggest that the device will have a G-shaped design meaning that the inside of the screen can be folded twice. This will happen from both the left and right side.
- The mechanism would be quite different compared to the Huawei Mate XT that folds inwards and outwards.

- As per the latest report, the Galaxy G Fold’s display panel will measure 9.96-inches giving ample screen estate. To recall, the current-generation Z Fold 6 has a 7.6-inch internal display.
- The height is said to measure 6.54-inches when the device is fully folded.
- The Galaxy G Fold is also tipped to weigh the same as the Huawei Mate XT that tips the scales at 298g. But it is also speculated to be thicker than Huawei’s offering, possibly because of the inward folding design.
- Lastly, the report points to Q3, 2025 launch timeline for Samsung’s tri-fold phone compared to an earlier rumour of early 2026 release.
Samsung’s tri-fold phone has been in the making since last few years. The company’s display arm has already showcased prototypes at tech exhibitions in the past. Reports suggest that the Galaxy G Fold’s design will offer better durability when it is not in use. It is expected to have three display panels, two external and internal hinges. The device will potentially carry a whopping price tag comapred to traditional foldables but it will also be available in limited quantities. Even the Huawei Mate XT CNY 20,000 (~Rs 2,34,162) in China.
