Simple One electric scooter, which was announced in August last year, is all set to go on sale in India. The Bengaluru-based start-up Simple Energy has announced that the delivery of the scooters will start in Q2 2022. While we wait, it’s time for a refresher on what the Simple One packs under the hood, its price in India and availability, and some of the upgrades the scooter has got since launch. Simple One electric scooter price in India is set at Rs 1,09,999. Additionally, there is an additional battery pack option that increases the overall range of the Simple One electric scooter. The model will cost an additional Rs 35,999 over the Simple One. This seems to be the ex-showroom price across cities, including Delhi, Bengaluru, Chennai, and Hyderabad. Simple Energy has not clarified whether this pricing will be after the inclusion of FAME subsidies or not. However, even if that is the case, the Simple One would still undercut the Ather 450X and 450 Plus. Also, Simple Energy has confirmed that the pricing will be excluding any state subsidy.

Simple Energy electric scooter deliveries will begin starting June 2022. Suhas Kumar founder CEO of Simple Energy has said that it will try its best to launch the vehicle simultaneously in all 13 states and 75 cities. That said, you can pre-book the electric scooter pan India, so wherever you are located, you can pre-book the Simple One. So far, more than 50,000 people have pre-booked Simple One electric scooter bookings, per the company.

Range, modes, and top speed

Simple Energy has given a clear idea of what the range will be. As per the company, the electric scooter will have a range of 236 kms as per IDC. With a rider and pillion, you can expect a range of 203 kms depending on Indian road conditions in Eco mode. The Simple One electric scooter will have four modes, namely, Eco, Ride, Dash and Sonic. In Eco mode, you can expect the speed to be around 45-48 kmph. The top tier Sonic mode will boost the vehicle with a top speed of 105 kmph.

Battery and charging

This is where things get interesting. The battery of the Simple one is 4.8 kWh, but it is split into two parts. One of them is fixed near the floorboard with a capacity of 3.2 kWh, and another is a removable one with a capacity of 1.6 kWh, weighing 7kg, located under the seat of the scooter. There is an additional battery pack option, which will increase the range up to 300 km as per the company. It will have two removable 1.6 kWh modules under the scooter in this option.

Regarding charging, you can charge the vehicle at home with any 15A charger. Per the company, the Simple One electric scooter can charge from zero to about 80 percent in about 2.75 hours. As of now, Simple Energy is focusing on building up around 300 charging stations across the country named the Simple Loop.

Performance and durability

The Simple One electric scooter has some pretty solid performance claims. The entire vehicle is based on a chain drive system, which is noisier than the belt drive system. However, the scooter has a claimed torque of 72 Nm from its 4.5 kW motor. You can allegedly go from 0-40 kmph in under 3 seconds.

The vehicle also has two patented disc brakes, a front disc with a 200 mm diameter, and a rear one with 190 mm diameter. The electric scooter is fitted with a telescopic front fork and a rear mono shock suspension for additional comfort on bumpy rides. The Simple One electric scooter is IP67 certified, so you will not have to worry about going out and about during the monsoon season.

Touchscreen, app support, and more

The Simple One is a 4G-enabled connected scooter. It also comes with Bluetooth connectivity to pair your smartphone with the two-wheeler. The electric scooter has a 7-inch colour touchscreen display onboard as well, which can be used for navigation, tracking your speed, and changing music, among other things. Other features include remote locking, geofencing, call control, and a tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS).

Suhas Kumar, CEO of Simple Energy has clarified that there will not be any subscription plans and the 4G data will be free with the scooter.

Variants and design

The Simple One will be available in two variants. The major difference between the two is the tire size. The cost of the lower model has not been revealed yet, but, according to the CEO, it will be cheaper than the standard variant.

The design of the scooter is similar to the Ather 450X. However, it is significantly lighter with a weight of just 110 kg. There is also a 30L boot space, which is enough to fit a full-face helmet, along with the 1.6 kWh battery pack.

  • You will need to pay a booking fee of Rs. 1947. So, click proceed to pay and confirm payment.
  • You should now get a confirmation email of the same.
