“The 2018 flagship from Sony is expected to be the first bezel-less device from the brand”
While most top league smartphone makers have already launched their set of bezel-less smartphones, Sony was yet to embrace the technology. However, it seems that is about to change as rumour has it that Sony is in the process of redesigning its smartphone lineup for next year. It is believed that the successor to the Xperia XZ premium (first impressions) will come flaunting a bezel-less form factor.
A recent leaked image also revealed the key specifications of the upcoming smartphone, which seems to be bearing the model number H8541. It seems to be equipped with a 5.7-inch 4K HDR TRILUMINOS display, protected by a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass 5. It also reveals that the performance of the handset will be driven by the current top tier Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor. The processor will be further mated to 4GB RAM backed by 64GB of internal storage. The metal-clad device will feature the usual IP65/68 certification for dust and water resistance.
On the software front, the device will run the latest Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box with Sony’s proprietary skin on top. There is a 3,420mAh battery backing the device, which also supports Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 3.0 technology for fast charging. What has been pointed out in the leaked spec sheet is that the handset measures 149 x 74 x 7.5mm, which is smaller and thinner than the current Xperia XZ Premium (156 x 77 x 7.9mm). This hints toward a larger display in a smaller footprint, which falls in line with bezel-less trend of today. The connectivity options on the device include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, GPS + GLONASS and USB Type-C.
As of now, no further information is available regarding the upcoming device. But be rest assured, we will bring it to you as and when it appears.
