It’s been close to three years since the Sony WH-1000XM5 launched, and now it seems the successor, presumably called the WH-1000XM6, is around the corner. A few weeks back, the Sony flagship pair of headphones was found on the US and Canada’s FCC listings, and now it has been spotted on Singapore’s Infocomm Media Development Authority website. This certification suggests that the launch is near.
Sony WH-1000XM6 IMDA listing
Sony WH-1000XM6 with model number YY2984 is listed on the IMDA website.

The same model number was discovered on the FCC and the UL filings by TheWalkmanblog. UL Solutions checks the safety standards of a device.
The WH-1000XM5 with model number YY2954 is also present on the UL listing.
Certifications aside here’s what we know about the upcoming Sony headphones:
Sony WH-1000XM6 rumours
- TheWalkmanblog notes FCC’s Short-Term Confidentiality (STC) for the WH-1000XM6 ends on July 22, 2025. The XM5’s STC ended on August 8th 2023 but the device was launched on May 12th, 2022, which is about 13 weeks before. If Sony follows the same routine, we could get the XM6 by the end of April or the beginning of May. Let’s see.
- The same source claims the headphones will be available in three colours viz., black, blue, and silver.
- The 5V and 9V ratings on the FCC listing suggest support for fast charging.
- The driver size seems to be 30mm.
- The headset supports Bluetooth 5.3.
Sony WH-1000XM6: what else to expect
- Since the predecessors didn’t have an official IP rating, it would be great to have dust and water protection on the new pair.
- We would like XM6 to have the widely supported AptX codec from Qualcomm. This seems unlikely since Sony has its proprietary LDAC codec and the XM6 is most probably running on a MediaTek chip.
- We think Sony would price the XM6 under Rs 39,990, considering inflation and the XM5 was launched at Rs 34,990 (a Rs 5,000 bump over the Rs 29,990 price tag of the XM4). It would be great though if we get the same price as the XM5 but that depends on the number of upgrades this pair boasts.
