The new Xperia phones are the first from the brand to offer a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor
At CES in Las Vegas, Sony has expanded its range of Xperia smartphones with the launch of three new models. The brands new devices include the Sony Xperia XA2, Xperia XA2 Ultra and Xperia L2. The new Xperia devices come as the Japanese tech giants first smartphones to boast rear-mounted fingerprint sensors. The Xperia XA2 Ultra is also Sony’s first smartphone to offerdual selfie cameras.
Talking about the Sony Xperia XA2 first, the phone offers the same design as previous Sony devices with thick bottom and top bezels. Thephone comes with a 5.2-inch full HD LCD display, and boots Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box. The handset is powered by a 2.2GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 processor, mated to Adreno 508 graphics and 3GB of RAM. The storage capacity on board is 32GB, which can be further increased by inserting a microSD card. The camera department includes a 23MP rear shooter and an 8MP front snapper. The 4G LTE-enabled offering comes in single and dual-SIM variants, and is fuelled by a 3,300mAh battery.
The Sony Xperia XA2 Ultra sports a 16MP front snapper with optical image stabilisation, accompanied by another 8MP 120-degree wide-angle secondary shooter. At the rear, the device gets the same 23MP shooter as the Xperia XA2. The phone offers a bigger 6-inch full HD LCD display, and boots Android 8.0 Oreo. The device offers 4GB of RAM and 32GB / 64GB storage variants. The phone is fuelled by a 3,580mAh battery. Its connectivity features and processor are the same as the Xperia XA2.
As for the Sony Xperia L2, the phone comes as a budget offering with Android 7.1.1 Nougat. The device offers a 5.5-inch HD LCD display, and is powered by a 1.5GHz quad-core MediaTek MT6735P processor, aided by 3GB of RAM. The phone features 32GB of expandable storage, a 13MP autofocus rear snapper, an 8MP front shooter, 4G LTE and a 3,300mAh battery.
The Sony Xperia XA2, Xperia XA2 Ultra and Xperia L2 will be available in select markets later this month, and will be released in most markets in starting February. The company will be revealing their pricing at launch time.
