Coronavirus: Swiggy Grocery delivery service launched amid lockdown in India

Swiggy Grocery service is now available in over 125 cities across India

Highlights
  • Swiggy has partnered with HUL, P&G, Godrej, Dabur, Marico, Cipla, Vishal Mega Mart, and Adani Wilmers for grocery delivery
  • Swiggy says that it can only delivery groceries in two hours
  • There’s also an option for contactless delivery on prepaid orders

Popular food delivery aggregator Swiggy has launched a new grocery delivery section in its app in over 125 cities in India. This comes amid the coronavirus lockdown imposed across the country and should come as a sigh of relief to customers. Swiggy has partnered with HUL, P&G, Godrej, Dabur, Marico, Cipla, Vishal Mega Mart, and Adani Wilmers for grocery delivery. Swiggy says that it can only deliver groceries in two hours, which is understandable considering the current situation and rise in demand for grocery delivery. There’s also an option for ‘no-contact’ delivery on prepaid orders. The company initially tested the feature in only Tier-1 and Tier-2 cities last week and is now more widely available.

Swiggy Grocery

Tapping the grocery section within the Swiggy app shows you all the serviceable stores in and around your location, post which customers can place an order for the required items. The new grocery section replaces Swiggy Store section that had local Kirana and general stores, medical shops, vegetables and fruits mart, pet care, gourmet and organic and others. Given that most online delivery aggregators are running out delivery slots, Swiggy aims to use its force to delivery groceries from nearby stores.

We tried the Grocery service and found some of the nearby stores listed such as 24 Seven and Vishal Mega Mart. However, the products available within these stores were either limited or out of stock.

Swiggy Genie

Additionally, Swiggy has also revamped ‘Swiggy Go’ offering to ‘Swiggy Genie’ in over 15 cities and offers services like pick-up and drop items from anywhere within the city. But considering the lockdown situation, it is only restricted to delivery essentials. Apart from Swiggy, Zomato has also started grocery delivery is major cities across the country and is slowly expanding.
