The Tata Nexon EV recently crossed the 35,000-units sales milestone in India. On the occasion, the healthy rivalry between Tata and Mahindra gave way to some humorous wordplay between the two Indian automakers. Tata Motors, in its celebratory campaign, took a subtle jibe at its competitor, mocking the upcoming Mahindra XUV400 electric SUV. The Mahindra XUV400 has been unveiled but is due to reach the market in January in three variants.

Tata vs Mahindra

The Tata Nexon EV, which crossed recently crossed the 35,000+ units sales milestone, has cemented itself as a strong EV brand in the EV four-wheeler segment in India. On the occasion, Tata Motors took to Twitter to take a humourous dig at its Indian rival, Mahindra. Much like the Ather-Ola, PepsiCo-CocaCola, and Audi-BMW rivalry, the Indian automotive giants have been seen mingling in a sarcastic exchange of comments.

The Nexon EV’s 35,000+ mark has come up in just 2 years times since its launch in 2020, which has established the brand as a force to reckon with. The upcoming Mahindra XUV400 electric SUV is yet to be launched in India and will go up against the likes of the Tata Nexon EV Prime and Tata Nexon EV MAX.

While the creative mocking is new, both Indian automakers have battled it out in the SUV space in India for decades now. In fact, Anand Mahindra, Chairman at Mahindra & Mahindra has been vocal about the healthy competitive relationship that the two indigenous companies share. The Chairman has expressed his fondness for constructive rivalry which according to him translates into a bed for innovation.
