Tecno has launched a new budget smartphone in India: the Tecno POP X 5G. This handset isn’t to be confused with the Tecno POP X, which is a budget 4G phone priced at Rs 8,499. The new Tecno POP X 5G comes with a refreshed design and a bigger battery than its 4G counterpart. The smartphone also comes with connectivity features such as 4×4 MIMO and 5G+ carrier aggregation, for faster downloads and smoother streaming.
Tecno POP X 5G price in India, availability
Tecno POP X 5G has been launched at Rs 15,999 for the base variant with 4GB RAM and 128GB onboard storage. The smartphone comes in another configuration with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage, which is priced at Rs 17,999. The Tecno POP X 5G will be available exclusively via Amazon on April 24th at 12 pm.

Tecno POP X 5G specifications, features
The Tecno POP X 5G features a 6.78-inch HD+ display with a 120Hz refresh rate. It’s powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 6400 processor, which should be able to handle regular tasks efficiently. The smartphone packs a 6,500mAh battery with 45W fast charging support. This battery setup should be more than enough for regular to moderate usage. While you do get several options with 7,000mAh batteries, the 6,500mAh capacity should still be capable of lasting longer than a day, depending on usage.
The new Tecno smartphone houses a 13MP rear camera and an 8MP front camera for selfies. This is a basic camera setup, quite common in budget phones, but there are alternatives offering versatility. For durability, you get an IP64 rating with the Tecno POP X 5G and drop-tested as well. The handset has several connectivity features, including 4×4 MIMO and 5G+ carrier aggregation, and FreeLink Communication through which users can connect directly with nearby devices even without network coverage. This feature lets you make calls, send messages, and even share files up to 1.5 km in open environments.
On the software front, the Tecno POP X 5G runs Android 16 with HiOS 16. It also comes with several AI features such as AI Noise Cancellation, AI Writing Assistant, AI Eraser 2.0, AI Image Extender, AI Flash Snap, WhatsApp Assistant, and Circle to Search. These AI features are spread across different apps and use cases, which should make them helpful in different scenarios. It’s also good to see Tecno prioritising AI features for the budget segment, which is usually reserved for the upper mid-range and flagship phones.
In terms of design, the Tecno POP X 5G looks quite similar to the Tecno Spark 50, which has the same slim camera bar on the rear panel. The smartphone measures 8.18mm and features a 6-series aerospace-grade aluminium camera deco with a metallic finish.
The Tecno POP X 5G makes sense if you want a budget phone that has a stylish and durable design with reliable battery life and several AI features. It offers a balanced package overall and not one that stands out in different areas. However if you prioritise cameras and performance, then you might want to check out alternatives.
