Google Tensor G5 Geekbench and specifications (expected)

Google has shifted from Samsung Foundry to TSMC for the Tensor G5, a move believed to improve the performance of Pixel phones powered by this chip. The phones in question belong to the Google Pixel 10 series. Let’s find out if that’s the case with the newly surfaced Tensor G5 Geekbench scores. We will also look at the Tensor G5 specifications we know so far. We will update the article with other Tensor G5 benchmark scores and specifications as they come by.

Tensor G5 Geekbench score (leaked)

A Google phone codenamed “Frankel” has been spotted on the Geekbench database. It is believed to be Tensor G5. In the following Geekbench test result, we learn the single-core and multi-core (threaded) performance of the Tensor G5 CPU.

So, Tensor G5 appears to have lower scores than its predecessor in both tests. However, it’s too early and we would like to reserve our judgement till we test the chip ourselves.

Also as a side note, know that Tensor G5 was previously believed to carry a different codename, viz., laguna.

Tensor G5 GPU details we know so far

Coming to the GPU side of things, Android Authority reveals the Tensor G5 has Imagination Technologies’ DXT architecture, instead of ARM Mali-G715 GPU (Valhall 4th gen architecture) present inside the Tensor G4 in the Pixel 9 series. 

This is said to achieve 1.69 TFLOPs at 1.1GHz clock speed. Meanwhile, the Tensor G4’s Mali-G715 GPU can run up to 940MHz speed only.

Android Authority claims to have seen internal Google documents that peg a 35 percent to 60 percent improved performance over Tensor G4’s Mali GPU. 

Where the Imagination DXT GPU could stand out is in the raytracing department. It supports Level 4 raytracing, which could mean faster processing of close-to-real light, shadow and reflection effects. DXT GPU also features Virtualisation, better machine learning, power efficiency, Variable Rate Shading, ASTC texture compression with HDR, and more improvements.
