CD Projekt Red has shared an update on the much-awaited next-gen version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. The developer plans to launch the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions of the game at the end of 2022. The next-gen version of The Witcher 3 was supposed to launch in late 2021, but it faced some delays. The delays could have happened partly due to changes in developers in the midst of game development. Previously, the next-gen update development was handled externally by Saber Interactive. In a tweet celebrating Witcher 3’s seventh anniversary, CD Projekt Red revealed, “We’re delighted to share that the Next Gen version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is planned to release in Q4 2022.” This means the free update is now expected to arrive sometime between October to December 2022. Hopefully, the next-gen version won’t be delayed again.

The Witcher 3’s enhanced version will be a free update to players who already own the game on their PS4, Xbox One, or PC. The new update will feature ray-tracing and faster load times and allow you to play the RPG at 4K 60fps. The Witcher 3 next-gen version will also get full support for DualSense and Xbox Series X|S controllers. The update will most likely bundle all the available DLC as a Complete Edition.

CD Projekt Red is currently working on the next Witcher game alongside the Witcher 3 next-gen update. While not much is known about the Witcher 4, the developer has revealed that the game is built using Epic Games’ Unreal Engine 5. CD Projekt Red has previously built the games on its proprietary REDengine tech since the Witcher 2. More details about the Witcher 4 will be announced soon.
