“Here are the top devices which users searched for in the month of June”
If you’re one of those that think that the smartphone market has reached saturation, then you just need to take a look at the mobile phone industry in India. Each month we’re seeing the launch of quite a few new devices, with brands fighting tooth and nail among themselves to maintain their market share. And this has been true for the year 2019 too so far, and we’ve seen the rise of Samsung, and brands like Xiaomi and Realme at each other’s throats. The month of June was no different and that’s why we are taking a look at the most popular phones (as per searches on 91mobiles.com) which caught user’s attention.
After a while, the list of table toppers is seeing some serious changes. Samsung’s Galaxy M40 has managed to unseat the Redmi Note 7 Pro (review) from its top spot. And OnePlus 7 has made a debut in the coveted chart directly at third position. Thanks to price cuts, the Galaxy M20 (review) has leapt seven places to sit at the fourth spot, whereas the Galaxy A50 (review) slipped in its popularity to find the fifth seat.
The complete list
The changes in the top 5 list also had an effect on the entire chart of the top 20 mobile phones in the month of June. Many phones seem to have received new-found popularity, whereas popularity for many others has waned. Without further ado, here’s a look at the list, wherein alongside the phone model, we’ve also mentioned the price segment it’s operating in and its month of launch in India.
Hits and misses
The Galaxy M40 (review) is yet another example of how Samsung is changing tack to fight the Chinese dominion. At the time of its launch, it was the first smartphone with a punch-hole display in the sub-Rs 20k segment. The handset also brings Qualcomm’s powerful Snapdragon 675 chipset, which is paired with 6 gigs of RAM and 128GB storage. The device also boasts triple rear cameras and a high-res 32MP selfie shooter.
While the OnePlus 7 Pro (review) is the flagship that will raise everyone’s brows, it’s the OnePlus 7 (review) that will potentially drive sales, since it sticks to the brand’s promise of offering powerful flagships at mouth-watering prices. The OnePlus 7 is quite similar to the 6T in terms of the design and features, but comes with the Snapdragon 855 chipset under the hood along with a 48MP primary shooter on the back.
The affordable sibling to the F11 Pro (review) has also made its debut in this list. The OPPO F11 is a mid-range offering that features a 6.5-inch waterdrop notch-toting display, and Helio P70 processor. The biggest highlight is that just like its brother, the phone ships with a 48-megapixel shooter on the back.
The Galaxy A10 is the cheapest offering in the Galaxy A lineup, and yet, comes with a small dewdrop-shaped cut-out. The handset offers a 6.2-inch HD+ screen, and comes packed with a Exynos 7884 octa-core chipset, which is paired with 2GB of RAM. The other specifications include a 13MP f/1.9 rear camera, 5MP selfie snapper, and a 3,400mAh battery.

Samsung increases its lead over Xiaomi
It seems that the Chaebol’s efforts are paying off. While till now Samsung and Xiaomi usually had a similar number of devices among our monthly list of top 20 mobile phones, the Korean giant has come out ahead of the Apple of China in the month of June. What’s perhaps even more surprising is that these two brands cover more than half of the list. In fact, with offerings from just six brands included in the chart, it’s quite interesting to note that it wasn’t too long ago when we were seeing as many as 10 phonemakers in the list.
Rs 10k-20k segment dominates the popularity charts
The surprises continue here as well. While the budget segment between Rs 5k to 10k has been really popular, the mid-range tier between Rs 10k to 20k has been increasing in popularity for some time now. But in the month of June, the mid-budget segment had as many as 12 devices in the top 20 chart, more than other segments combined.
With the month of July expected to be yet another fantastic period in terms of smartphone launches, it’d surely be interesting to see if they are able to reach the popularity levels enjoyed by the top 20 mobile phones. We’ll be analysing that in detail next month, so please stick around.
