“Here are the top devices which users searched for in the month of September”

The festive season is one of the best times to purchase electronics, and that’s evident from all the sales and offers run by e-commerce giants. Phonemakers also aim to make the most of it as they launched a number of handsets in the country in the month of September ahead of the festivities. But the question, as always, is whether these launches were able to get consumer’s attention. Well, to find that out, we take a look at the top 20 most-searched phones by users on 91mobiles. While this isn’t a way to gauge sales of smartphones, it’s an indicative list of smartphones that users are clamouring for.

The Top 5

Xiaomi is back on the top spot, but not with the Redmi Note handset. This tie, it’s the brand’s most affordable notch-bearing handset, the Redmi 6 Pro. The second device in the chart-toppers is also a new entrant in the form of the V11 Pro. OPPO’s F9 Pro (review) has fallen in popularity levels to sit at the third position. The Realme 2 (review) on the other hand, has risen six places to find a seat at the fourth spot. The Nokia’s 6.1 Plus (review) slipped three places to reach the fifth place.

The complete list

The shuffling in the top five handsets can also be seen in the entire list. Many new smartphones made their debut, which resulted in the exit of several popular phones. So without further ado, here’s a look at the top 20 mobile phones, mentioned alongside their change in ranking, price segment and month of launch in the subcontinent.

Trend analysis

Xiaomi is back in a dominating position

With so many fresh faces from the Chinese giant Xiaomi in this list, it’s not a surprise to see the company leading the brand chart. Interestingly enough, this means that Samsung is a distant second with just three offerings among the top 20 phones. OPPO also accompanies Samsung with three of its devices, while all the other phonemakers have either one or two handsets each.

No of devices by brands in the top 20 list in September 2018

Another point worth noting here is that there seems to be some consolidation in the market as well, since there are just 9 brands with their offerings among the top 20.

Newer phones are more popular

No of devices by their month of launch in the top 20 list in September 2018

While it isn’t readily apparent, it seems that the shelf space for smartphones is less these days. All the handsets in the list have been launched in 2018. Interestingly enough, 25 percent of the chart is filled with phones that were launched in the month of September itself.

With more phones set to launch in the last quarter of the year, the Indian smartphone market continues to be abuzz and we’ll surely see how consumer’s sentiments might change, so keep an eye out for the top 20 lists.
