“From the much-anticipated Galaxy Note 9 to BlackBerry’s offerings, here’s the list of top smartphones expected in August”

The month of July saw the launch of numerous high-profile handsets like the Vivo NEX (review), OPPO Find X (first impressions), and ASUS ZenFone 5Z (review) among others. And it seems we’re in for some more awesome smartphones this August. Samsung is all set to unveil its next-gen flagship, while Xiaomi’s newest Android One device is also ready to make a splash in India. Without any further ado, here are all the phones we’re most looking forward to next month.

BlackBerry Evolve and Evolve X

BlackBerry Evolve invite

Canadian giant BlackBerry seems to be serious about the Indian market. Just after launching the KEY2, the company has sent out media invites for an event on August 2nd. While the brand hasn’t made it clear what it’ll be unveiling, speculations are rife that it’ll be oft-rumoured Ghost and Ghost Pro smartphones, which will launch with the Evolve moniker. As per leaks, the handsets will mark the phonemaker’s debut in the 18:9 arena, and come with 4,000mAh batteries under the hood. Interestingly, the Evolve and Evolve X might see their global launch as the smartphones are expected to manufactured by Optiemus Infracom — BlackBerry’s licensee for the subcontinent.

Honor Play

While other companies are equipping their gaming-centric phones with top-notch specs, Honor seems to have made the Play as a mid-range device. The handset does boast the company’s new GPU Turbo technology, which increases graphics processing efficiency by 60 percent while reducing energy consumption by 30 percent. The device features a large 6.3-inch full HD+ display, and runs on the high-end Kirin 970 chipset. It will be an Amazon-exclusive smartphone, and will be launching on August 6th.

Xiaomi Mi A2

The Xiaomi Mi A2 is set for its grand entrance in the country on August 8th. The successor to the Mi A1, it also comes with Android One, instead of the brand’s proprietary MIUI. The handset utilises the powerful Snapdragon 660 chipset, which is paired with 4-gigs of RAM. At the back, the dual-camera setup on this phone includes a 12MP f/1.75 sensor and a secondary 20MP f/1.75 shooter. For selfies, the smartphone offers a high-res 20MP snapper at the front.

Samsung Galaxy Note 9

August 9th is when Samsung plans to unveil the Galaxy Note 9 to the world, so you can expect it to land in India later in the same month. One of its most anticipated features of the forthcoming flagship is the Bluetooth-equipped S Pen. This will enable you to click photos from a distance, play and pause music and more. While the smartphone might not change from its predecessor – the Galaxy Note 8 (review) – it’ll pack a beefy 4,000mAh, as per leaks. We also expect to see the handset carrying forward the imaging prowess the brand showcased with the Galaxy S9 siblings earlier this year.

Moto G6 Plus

Motorola Moto G6 Plus FB

During the launch of the new Moto G6 (review) series, the brand held off from bringing the Plus model to India. However, that doesn’t mean that the phone won’t be coming to the subcontinent. Considering Motorola has started teasing the launch of the G6 Plus, we can expect it to be available in the country in the month of August. The Moto G6 Plus comes with a slightly larger display, but its overall design is similar to that of the G6. What’s important is that it’s powered by the faster Snapdragon 630 processor, and features a slightly bigger 3,200mAh battery.

Nokia 5.1

Nokia 5.1

Back in May, Nokia announced its trio of smartphones – the 2.1, 3.1 and 5.1. While the Nokia 3.1 has already been launched, we can now expect its bigger sibling to come to our shores as well. The Nokia 5.1 features a 5.5-inch, 18:9 display bearing an HD+ resolution. The device runs on the MediaTek Helio P18 chipset, and comes with 16MP and 8MP rear and front cameras, respectively.

Nokia is currently also preparing to launch its X5 and X6 (first impressions) handsets worldwide as well, with the latter being launched as the 6.1 Plus. While the brand hasn’t made any official announcement, rumours suggest that the notch-toting handsets will make their way to India as well.
