Toyota Kirloskar Motor Company will be unveiling the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder in India on July 1st and the vehicle will rival the compact SUVs in India. The Toyota Urban Cruise Hyryder will become India’s first strong hybrid compact SUV when it launches. The vehicle is also expected to come in a mild hybrid form and will be mated to both manual and automatic gearbox combinations. The vehicle has now been officially teased by the Japanese automaker which confirms some interesting design highlights that were leaked earlier.
The Toyota-Suzuki alliance that was formalised back in 2016 and further strengthen with financial involvement in 2019 has yielded sibling products such as the Suzuki Baleno and Toyota Glanza. The Urban Cruiser Hyrder will become the first jointly developed product for the Indian market. The Suzuki counterpart will follow in the coming months.
Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder teased ahead of launch
Toyota is working towards the launch of the Urban Cruiser Hyryder compact SUV in the Indian market and a couple of teasers have given us an insight into what to expect from the product. The UC Hyryder was also recently spied shooting for a TVC ahead of its official unveiling on July 1st.
The Hyryder teasers show off design cues on the exterior as well as some interior bits. On the outside, the vehicle will adopt a chunky design approach and will be embellished with LED DRLs and LED tail lamp highlights with signature patterns. Chrome treatment will be given to window beading and front grille as seen. Hybrid badging will also differentiate the powertrain from the outside.
On the inside, the Hyryder will get a beige-tan coloured upholstery and a faux leather treatment is also expected on the dashboard. Gloss black and chrome highlights will also be scattered across interior surfaces. The car will also get auto AC, a new SmartPlay Studio system and connected car tech from the Suzuki parts bin. The feature list could also include a 360-degree camera and heads-up display.

The Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder will become India’s first strong hybrid compact SUV. The vehicle will get a 1.5ltr strong hybrid powertrain that would develop 115bhp of peak power and will add 33bhp and 60Nm of additional power and torque via the electric motor. The vehicle is likely to get an e-CVT transmission.
Mild hybrid versions of the vehicle might get the Suzuki 1.5ltr K15C petrol engine that generates 105bhp of peak power and 138Nm of peak torque. This engine could be mated to a 6-speed manual and automatic transmission options. The Hyryder will be based on Suzuki’s Global C platform. This new platform will serve as the base for other models on Suzuki’s lineup such as the upcoming Brezza and S-Cross.
Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder price in India (expected)
The price in India on the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder are likely to be around Rs 11 – Rs 17 lakh (ex-showroom). The Hyryder will rival other SUVs in the segment such as the popular Korean twins – Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos, German brothers – Volkswagen Taigun and Skoda Kushaq as well as lower models of the Tata Harrier, the Mahindra XUV700, the upcoming Mahindra Scorpio N, etc.
