At the 45th AGM, Reliance Industries announced that it is working with Alphabet Inc’s Google to introduce an “ultra affordable” 5G phone in India very soon. The company mentioned that it had laid out a $25 billion plan for introducing the 5G network services within two months. Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance hasn’t said much about the said 5G phone except that it will be “ultra affordable” and we speculate it will come bundled with a prepaid pack. The handset could be launched in time when the 5G network is rolled out in a phased manner.
Jio 5G network services will first roll out in cities like Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, and Mumbai by Diwali this year and pan India rollout by December 2023. The company says this will be the fastest rollout in the world. The telecom network has more than than 420 million customers in the country currently.
Jio Phone 5G specifications (expected)
Reports suggest the Jio Phone 5G is said to sport a 6.5-inch HD+ IPS LCD display with a 1,600 x 720 pixels resolution and 60Hz refresh rate. It is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 480 5G processor paired with Adreno 619 GPU, 4GB RAM, and 32GB user expandable storage. It is said to boot PragatiOS out of the box that it developed in partnership with Google.
Moving on to the optics, the Jio Phone 5G will reportedly sport a dual camera setup, comprising a 13MP primary sensor and a 2MP macro lens, on the rear. Up front, it may sport an 8MP shooter for selfies and video calling. The phone is likely to be equipped wth a side-mounted fingerprint sensor and packs a 5,000mAh battery with 18W fast charging support. Connectivity options include 5G, 4G LTE, dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0, and a USB Type-C port.
Jio Phone 5G price (expected)
Jio Phone 5G is expected to be priced between Rs 10,000 and Rs 15,000 and will come bundled with a prepaid pack. The phone will have a down payment option and the rest in easy EMIs.
