Upcoming smartphones in August 2021: Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3, Realme GT, Redmi K50, and more

August is here, and it’s going to be a pretty exciting month for smartphone enthusiasts. We are expecting more than a dozen smartphone launches this month. Samsung will show off its much-awaited foldable devices — the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 and Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 — while Realme is finally bringing its popular GT series to India. We are also expecting the Google Pixel 5a to hit the market this month along with a plethora of devices from Redmi, Realme, Tecno, and more. So, here’s a quick look at all the smartphones that we expect to launch in August 2021.

Smartphones launching in August 2021

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3

Samsung is expected to launch its next iteration of the Z Flip line, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3, on August 11th. The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 design and prices have already been leaked, and the phone is looking way better than its predecessor. As per leaked renders, the phone is packing a dual-camera setup with a larger 1.3-inch exterior screen compared to the 1.1-inch screen of the Z Flip 2. The abysmally smaller external display of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 2 was one of its drawbacks, and we are happy that Samsung is addressing the issue with the new variant.

Everything else seems to be more or less similar, with Samsung opting for the same 6.7-inch FHD+ foldable AMOLED display and keeping the placement of the power button, volume rocker, and fingerprint sensor. That said, if renders are correct, the phone will be available in several colour options, including Dark Green, Light Purple, Beige, Grey, Black, Pink, Dark Blue, and White. It will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 SoC.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 was a big technological success for Samsung, with the company pulling off a foldable smartphone with almost no deal-breaking drawbacks. But it still remained an enthusiast device. The latest entrant, Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 is expected to make this device mainstream. Thanks to a leaked Geekbench listing, we already know the core specifications of the phone. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 will feature Qualcomm’s upcoming Snapdragon 888+ processor. Previous reports have also suggested that the phone will pack a 6.2-inch FHD+ AMOLED panel on the outside, and a 7.5-inch flexible AMOLED panel made of UTG (ultra-thin-glass) on the inside. Both these screens will support a 120Hz refresh rate and HDR10+. Samsung has also confirmed that the Z Fold 3 will support S-Pen.

iQOO 8 5G

The iQOO 8 5G is supposedly getting a launch on August 4th. Building on the success of its predecessor, the iQOO 7, the upcoming smartphone has its task cut out. As it happens with every phone, almost all the specs have already leaked before the launch. According to the leaks, it will be the first phone to launch with Snapdragon 888+ chipset. It will also come with a 4,500mAh battery with support for 120W FlashCharge technology, which should get your device from zero to a hundred in less than half an hour. The smartphone is also leaked to feature an LTPO panel with 10-bit colour, 2K resolution (QHD+), and a 120Hz refresh rate.

Realme GT series

Realme GT series has already been launched in the Chinese and European market, and both the GT 5G and GT Master Edition are soon to make an entry in India. The tweet from Realme India CEO Madhav Sheth showcases all four phones in the series, namely Realme GT 5G, GT Neo, GT Master Edition, and GT Mater Edition Explorer. But we don’t know if all these phones will launch in India or not.

Talking about the specs, Realme GT 5G packs a 6.43-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED display that supports a 120Hz refresh rate. It can also maintain 1000nits of peak brightness. Powered by the Snapdragon 888 5G SoC paired with Adreno 660 GPU, the smartphone offers up to 12GB LPDDR5 RAM and 256GB UFS 3.1 storage. The Realme GT Master Edition also features a similar 6.4-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate and 1,000 nits of peak brightness. It is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G SoC coupled with 8GB of RAM and up to 256GB storage. The Realme GT series price in India should start around Rs 27,999.

Redmi K50 series

Redmi will also be launching its Redmi K50 series phones this August if the leaks hold true. Successor to the popular Redmi K40 series, the upcoming lineup is expected to launch with at least two phones, namely the Redmi K50 and K50 Pro. We also know pretty much all the specs of these phones, thanks to the recent leaks, both the Redmi K50 and Redmi K50 Pro will be powered by the next flagship chipset from Qualcomm, the Snapdragon 895/ 898. The regular Redmi K50 will reportedly have a 48MP primary camera, while the Redmi K50 Pro will feature a 108MP camera. The former is said to support 50W fast charging while the latter is claimed to come with 120W fast charging support. We don’t have any details on the display though.

As for pricing, the regular K40 will supposedly cost Rs 27,990, while the Pro version will be in the Rs 30,000 to Rs 40,000 price range.

Motorola Edge 20 Fusion

Edge 20 Lite

Motorola Edge 20 Fusion is also tipped to launch in the first week of August. Thanks to recent leaks, we know quite a lot about this phone, including the key specs and design. Some leaks suggest that the Motorola Edge 20 Fusion and the recently-launched Motorola Edge 20 Lite are the same device, meant for different markets. If true, this means the Motorola Edge 20 Fusion will have a MediaTek Dimensity 720 SoC, paired with 8GB RAM and 128GB storage. It is also expected to come with a 6.7-inch HD+ display sporting a 90Hz refresh rate. That said, we are not entirely sure about this one.

Realme 8s

While we don’t have an exact launch date, recent leaks do point to August 2021 for the Realme 8s unveiling. As far as specifications go, we already know almost everything about this phone. According to leaks, the phone will feature a triple camera module at the back, with a 90Hz 6.5-inch display at the front. It will supposedly be powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 810 SoC so expect the phone to come with 5G capabilities. The leaked renders show that the phone will feature a shiny back with gradient colours. It should come with a big 5,000mAh battery and will support 33W fast charging. As per pricing, it should hover around the Rs 15,000 mark.

Google Pixel 5a

Pixel 5a design

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Google Pixel 5a will debut in August and will be on sale the same month. Its recent FCC certification sighting points to the same. While we don’t have any concrete leaks, reports suggest that the smartphone will sport a 6.2-inch FHD+ OLED display with a 90Hz refresh rate. It is expected to be powered by the Snapdragon 765G SoC and will come with Android 12 right out of the box. Unlike previous Pixel a-series models, the Pixel 5a might come with a dual-camera setup at the back, but we are not entirely sure about this. Note that the August launch is tipped only for the US and Japanese markets, and it might not be released in India.

Samsung Galaxy A52s

As per leaks, the Samsung Galaxy A52s will also see a launch in August. That said, according to tips, the Samsung Galaxy A52s will be launched in Europe before it makes its way to the Indian subcontinent. According to the leaked Geekbench listing, the phone will be powered by the Snapdragon 778G paired with 8GB of RAM and 128GB internal storage. It will come with OneUI 3.1 based on Android 11. Realme Flash

Realme Flash specs tipped

Realme Flash is also tipped to launch on August 3rd, and we are waiting to see what this device brings to the table — it is expected to be the first Android smartphone to support magnetic wireless charging, a feature that is available only on the iPhone 12 series so far. Dubbed as MagDart, the magnetic charging tech is supposed to be faster than Apple’s 15W tech, and the charger will come with a fan to keep the thermals in check. Realme Flash specifications have leaked already, with rumours pointing to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 chipset, up to 12GB of RAM, and 256GB of internal storage. We know that the phone will have a triple camera at the back and a single camera at the front. That said, we don’t know the camera specifications yet. ASUS Zenfone 8

ASUS launched the Zenfone 8 back in May 2021, but the phone couldn’t get an India release due to the coronavirus pandemic. But in a recent interview, Dinesh Sharma, Business Head of Commercial PC and Smartphone business at ASUS India confirmed that ASUS Zenfone 8 and ASUS Zenfone 8 Flip will launch in India soon. The ASUS Zenfone 8 features an FHD+ 5.9-inch Super AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate. There’s a 64MP primary and a 12MP ultrawide camera at the rear, along with a 12MP camera at the front. The phone is supposed to cost upwards of Rs 40,000.

Redmi 10

While the Redmi 10 was supposed to launch in early July, it didn’t happen, so we are fairly confident the phone will launch in August. The phone has already received Indonesia Telecom and SIRIM certifications which further bolsters the August release prediction. According to leaks, the phone will feature a triple camera sensor at the back. Other than that, we have only seen conflicting reports, so we cannot comment on the other specs of the phone.
