“February is usually the most happening month in terms of smartphone launches throughout the year, and it won’t disappoint in 2020 either”
February is arguably the most exciting month for smartphone launches. Not only we get to see Samsung’s flagship Galaxy S series lineup (and since last year a foldable smartphone too) that take on iPhones, but OEMs such as LG, Sony, OPPO, Vivo, and Xiaomi put their best foot forward at the biggest tech trade show, Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2020. This year the MWC is set to begin on February 24th and end February 27th. We’ll be there at the event to bring you all the exclusive, on-the-ground coverage, so stay tuned to 91mobiles. For now, let’s look at the smartphones you can look forward to seeing in the month of February, in India as well as globally.

POCO is back in business. The brand, after being separated from Xiaomi, has teased the launch of the POCO X2 smartphone in India. The handset will break cover in the country on February 4th as a gaming-centric smartphone. The handset is said to ship with 120Hz high refresh rate display, liquid cooling tech, and Qualcomm chipset, which could be Snapdragon 765G SoC with 5G connectivity.

It’ll also come with a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner, USB Type-C port, 3.5mm audio jack, and bottom-firing speakers. OPPO Reno 3 Pro
Per our exclusive report, the OPPO Reno 3 Pro will be launched in India by the third week of February. The handset will be slightly different from the one launched in China in December. The India version of the OPPO Reno 3 Pro is tipped to be the world’s first smartphone with 44MP selfie snapper. This will be paired with a secondary sensor, which could either be a depth-sensing or wide-angle lens, in the oblong punch-hole atop the display.
The Reno 3 Pro in China, meanwhile, packs a 6.5-inch full-HD+ OLED display with 90Hz refresh rate, HDR10+ support, and punch-hole for a single selfie camera. It’s also powered by Snapdragon 765G chipset with 5G modem. The phone sports a 48MP quad rear cameras, a 4,025mAh battery with VOOC 4.0 30W fast-charging support, and Android 10-based ColorOS 7.
Vivo’s sub-brand iQOO, which will be debuting in India as an independent entity, is slated to launch its first smartphone in February. The company has promised to globally announce the all-new iQOO smartphone here in India, with Snapdragon 865 SoC ticking at its core. The handset is also said to be India’s first with 5G smartphone.
The USP of the iQOO phone will be its performance. The company claims that it’ll be a premium gaming-centric device with “best battery technology.” That’s basically everything we know about the upcoming offering at the moment.
Samsung Galaxy M series
Samsung could refresh its affordable Galaxy M series in India in February. The next-gen Galaxy M11, Galaxy M21, and Galaxy M31 smartphones have been doing the rounds of the internet quite a bit lately. The Galaxy M31, which was recently certified by Wi-Fi Alliance, will be the most premium smartphone in the lot. The handset is tipped to be powered by Snapdragon 665/ Exynos 9611 SoC and sport 48MP quad rear cameras.
The Samsung Galaxy M21, meanwhile, is expected to rock Exynos 9610/9611 chipset and feature a triple-rear camera setup. The budget-centric Samsung Galaxy M11 smartphone’s details remain unknown at the moment but we can tell that the handset, alongside the Galaxy M21 and Galaxy M31, will boot Android 10-based One UI 2.0 out of the box.
Moto RAZR 2019
Registrations for the Moto RAZR 2019’s went live back in December 2019 in India, but the company is yet to confirm its launch in the country. Chances are that it could happen in February. The Moto RAZR 2019 was unveiled globally as the world’s first clamshell smartphone with a foldable screen in November. The handset uses Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 SoC under the hood, paired with a 2,510mAh battery.
The Moto RAZR 2019 also sports a 6.2-inch primary display with a notch atop that houses a 5MP selfie camera, a 2.7-inch Quick View display, and 16MP rear camera. Software-wise, it boots Android 9 Pie out of the box instead of Android 10. The phone comes with a sticker price of $1,499.99 (about Rs 1,08,250) for 6GB RAM + 128GB storage in the US.
Realme C3 could be the upcoming smartphone from OPPO’s former sub-brand Realme. The handset will be the next-gen entry-level offering, succeeding Realme C2 smartphone from last year. The Realme C3 was recently certified by Singapore agency that means its launch is just around the corner.
The phone’s specifications remain unknown at the moment, but we’re hoping it to be a notch above its predecessor, which rocks MediaTek Helio P22 chipset. Apart from this, the Realme C3 could be the first Realme smartphone to run Realme UI based on Android 10 out of the box.
Phones launching globally in February 2020
Samsung Galaxy S20 series
Samsung’s much-awaited Galaxy S20 series is slated to launch at an event in New York on February 11th. The handsets will be the successor of last year’s Galaxy S10 lineup, and for some reasons, they could be dubbed as the Galaxy S20 instead of Galaxy S11. Going by the previous leaks and rumours, Samsung will launch three smartphones – Galaxy S20, Galaxy S20+, and Galaxy S20 Ultra, with Exynos 990/ Snapdragon 865 chipset, Infinity-O Dynamic AMOLED display with high refresh rate, and up to Penta-rear camera setup.
All three phones are expected to have a 5G model and an in-display fingerprint sensor. The Galaxy S20 lineup will most likely boot Android 10-based One UI 2.0 out of the box, and at least one of them if not all, sport a new 108MP primary camera. The phones are also expected to pack a whopping battery with fast wired as well as wireless charging support, glass-sandwich design, DeX support, and more.
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip
Apart from the Galaxy S20 series, Samsung is also rumoured to launch its second-gen foldable smartphone on February 11th. Interestingly, the phone will allegedly be dubbed as Galaxy Z Flip instead of Galaxy Fold 2. The new foldable smartphone from the brand, unlike the original Galaxy Fold, will reportedly flaunt a clamshell design. The Galaxy Z Flip is said to have a 6.7-inch flexible display that’ll fold vertically, just like the Moto RAZR 2019.
Additionally, the phone is said to feature an Ultra-Thin Glass (UTG) construction, punch-hole foldable display, a secondary cover display, dual rear cameras, and 3,300mAh battery with 15W fast charging support. That’s all the information we can divulge at the moment.
Mi 10 series
Xiaomi may launch its upcoming flagships Mi 10 and Mi 10 Pro series earlier than expected. Both handsets may break cover in China on February 11th instead of MWC 2020, per the latest leak. The Mi 10 series will no doubt be Xiaomi’s premium offering, with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 SoC ticking at its core.
Apart from this, both Mi 10 and Mi 10 Pro are expected to debut with punch-hole display with high refresh rate, 108MP quad rear cameras, up to 4,800mAh battery, and maximum support of 66W fast charging. Sofware-wise, the handsets will most likely boot MIUI 11 atop Android 10 out of the box.
Realme Snapdragon 865 SoC phone
Xiaomi’s nemesis Realme is also gearing up to launch a smartphone with Snapdragon 865 SoC. The vendor will be at the MWC 2020 for the first time ever to take the wraps off the phone. It’ll later be introduced in India most likely as the successor of the Realme X2 Pro smartphone. According to a report by 91mobiles, Realme Snapdragon 865 SoC phone will break cover in the country either in late Q1 or early Q2 2020.
The handset is expected to be touted as the most powerful smartphone in the market. It was allegedly spotted on AnTuTu with the highest-ever score of 574,985 points. The Realme handset comfortably outscores the upcoming Xiaomi Mi 10 score of 560,217, which was the highest on the app so far.
Vivo APEX 2020
Vivo is expected to take the wraps off the third-gen Vivo APEX concept smartphone at MWC 2020. The Vivo APEX 2020, just like its predecessor, will debut with some revolutionary tech – the details of which currently remain vague.
Last year’s Vivo Apex 2019 offering, to recall, was a button-less, port-less smartphone with an in-display fingerprint sensor that works all over the display. However, there are pins on the back for a magnetic connector, similar to what we have seen for the Moto Mods on Motorola phones. The handset is powered by Snapdragon 855 SoC under the hood, paired with 12GB of RAM.
OPPO Find X2
The OPPO Find X2 is rumoured to launch at the forthcoming MWC 2020 event. The handset will be a flagship offering, succeeding the original Find X smartphone from 2018. The Find X2 is confirmed to rock Qualcomm’s latest high-end Snapdragon 865 SoC under the hood. The phone will most likely house a 6.5-inch curved OLED display with a QHD+ 3168 x 1440 pixels resolution and astounding 120Hz refresh rate. The phone is also said to offer an option to chose between QHD+ or Full HD+ and 60Hz or 120Hz refresh rate in any combination.
Additionally, the OPPO Find X2 could sport 5G connectivity, a massive battery with 65W fast-charging, and an array of camera sensors with 48MP Sony sensor instead of Samsung. There are speculations that the phone may come with a crescent-shaped camera setup on the back and a unique rotating camera mechanism design, which OPPO recently patented.
Sony Xperia 5 Plus
Sony is also expected to take the stage at MWC 2020 to launch its flagship Xperia 5 Plus smartphone. The phone was recently in news for the alleged CAD-based renders, which revealed the design similar to last year’s Sony Xperia 5. The Xperia 5 Plus is tipped to feature a glass-sandwich boxy design with 6.6-inch OLED display that bears 21:9 aspect ratio. The rear panel of the handset is expected to sport a vertical camera module that houses triple sensors + a ToF lens at the top right corner.
As far as the performance goes, the Xperia 5 Plus may be powered by Snapdragon 865 SoC. The handset will reportedly sport front-firing speakers and an 8MP selfie shooter on the front. It’ll most likely boot Android 10 OS out of the box.
Apart from this, OnePlus, LG, Samsung, and Nokia, among others are also expected in attendance at the upcoming MWC 2020 in Barcelona, Spain. So brace yourself and keep yourself locked to 91mobiles to see all the new gadgets.
