After Airtel and Jio, Vodafone Idea (Vi) has announced that it will roll out the 5G network in India “progressively over the next few years”. The company hasn’t mentioned any specific timeline like Jio or Airtel but said that it will “transform customer experience and enhance business performance,” according to CEO Akshaya Moondra. On the other hand, Airtel said that it will complete the rollout by March 2024, while Jio laid out plans to finish by December 2023. The former said that it is offering 5G services in eight cities, while Jio services will start being available from Diwali.
To recall, 5G services in India were launched by Narendra Modi on October 1st at the India Mobile Congress. Moondra said that Vi had laid out 5G plans and has developed a diverse range of India-specific use cases for enterprises and consumers through partnerships and ecosystem players.

“With the progressive roll-out of Vi 5G network and services over the next few years, I am confident that our 5G solutions will bring a better tomorrow that will transform the customer experience, enhance business performance, and positively impact people, driving digital economy growth in the country,” said CEO Akshaya Moondra in a statement.

Additionally, to drive the 5G ecosystem development, Vi has teamed up with smartphone brands such as Samsung, OnePlus, OPPO, Vivo, and Realme. The telco is engaging with other large brands to have Vi 5G provisioned for its users in time for market roll-out. The company is also showcasing industrial use cases like connected healthcare in partnership with L&T Smart World.
