“APEX 2019 has been confirmed as the name of the concept phone that will be showcased by Vivo on January 24th”
Vivo has released a teaser that confirms it will be showcasing the APEX 2019 smartphone at the event it is hosting on January 24th in China. The company had sent out invites last week for the showcasing of an upcoming phone that brings in a design revolution. While the first teaser only hinted at a teardrop design, the new one gives us a look at the form factor we can expect from the Vivo Apex 2019 concept phone.
The caption on the image roughly translates to: “A year ago, vivo APEX portrayed a new world of full screens. A year later, #vivo APEX 2019# evolved again, using technology to wake up to the future. See you on January 24.”
As can be seen from the image above, the Vivo APEX 2019 concept phone’s teaser shows the handset with curved sides, rounded edges, and no bezels. The bezel-less design will likely be achieved via a new mechanism since we are still several months, if not a year, from phones with wraparound displays that eliminate bezels entirely. Leaked renders of the Vivo APEX 2019 phone show a device with no bezels and buttons on the sides.
To recall, Vivo showcased the first APEX concept phone with a pop-up camera in a bid to eliminate bezels on the side. The handset was later released in the market under the NEX moniker. However, the pop-up camera hasn’t found much traction in the industry, with several manufacturers adopting a slider design to get rid of bezels on the top.
In fact, the second phone in Vivo’s NEX series, the NEX Dual Display, uses two screens and no camera in the front — the camera setup on the back can be used as the primary shooter as well as the selfie snapper. We will have to wait for next week to find out how Vivo’s next design for a bezel-less phone.
