“The Vivo APEX 2019 smartphone will likely feature wireless charging, pop-up camera, and pressure-sensitive buttons”
Vivo is all set to launch its next-gen truly bezel-less smartphone the APEX 2019 in China today. The handset will come as a successor to the last year’s Vivo APEX smartphone that eventually became the NEX (review), complete with the all-screen fascia, a screen-to-body ratio of 91.24 percent, and a pop-up selfie camera. While the APEX 2019 smartphone will continue to boast of the bezel- and notch-less screen and dual rear cameras, its design may be tweaked a little. For starters, the handset will reportedly have no hardware buttons whatsoever or any other ports and holes.
Vivo APEX 2019 features, design
Based on previous leaks and rumours, the APEX 2019 won’t come with any hardware buttons and ports. The device will reportedly have a neat unibody design with its volume rocker and power on the edges replaced be a capacitative touch panel as seen on MEIZU’s recently launched Zero smartphone. The 3.5mm headphone jack could be ditched and the USB charging port may pave way for a faster wireless charging tech.
Vivo gave a hint of such a design in its recent promotional activity. There the OEM allowed random people to touch a device without seeing it, and most people find that the handset had no physical button or camera bump on the smartphone. In fact, those who got to feel the device described it as smooth like a bar of soap or a stone.
The APEX 2019 may look reminiscent to its predecessor the Vivo NEX device – at least from the front. That means, it will flaunt the same edge-to-edge screen and a thin chin. It’s unclear, as of now, whether the phone will come with a pop-up selfie camera or not, though a recent official teaser suggests a second-gem pop-up camera is on the way. Moving on to the device’s rear panel, the handset will most likely sport a glass layer with dual rear cameras vertically-aligned in the middle. The missing fingerprint sensor at the back could possibly mean that the APEX 2019 will have in-display scanner.
The specifications of the device are vague at the moment, but we expect them to be revealed during the event.
