Vivo just yesterday teased the launch of a new U series of smartphones in China, without giving away any crucial details about it. Now, it has launched the first U series smartphone, named the Vivo U1. The new Vivo U1 smartphone comes with a waterdrop notch display, a big battery, and dual rear cameras. Unlike the company’s upcoming sub-brand IQOO, the Vivo U1 is a decidedly budget handset that caters to the masses instead of the premium buyers.


Vivo U1 price

The Vivo U1 price starts at RMB 799 (~Rs 8,430) for the base variant with 3GB RAM and 32GB storage. Next is the 3GB + 64GB variant that is priced at RMB 999 (~Rs 10,300), while the 4GB + 64GB option retails for RMB 1,199 (~Rs 12,650). The phone is already up for sale in China and is being offered in Starry Night Black, Aurora, and Aurora Red hues. As the moment, there is no word on the global launch of the handset.

Vivo U1 specifications

The Vivo U1 is equipped with a 6.22-inch FullView display featuring 720 x 1,520-pixel resolution, 19:9 aspect ratio, and 2.5D curved glass on top. At its core, the phone has an octa-core Snapdragon 439 SoC handling the performance, backed by Adreno 505 graphics. The budget smartphone is being offered in three configurations – 3GB RAM + 32GB storage, 3GB RAM + 64GB storage and 4GB RAM + 64GB storage, with support for expandable storage via microSD card.


In the imaging department, the smartphone offers a 13-megapixel (f/2.2) primary shooter backed by a 2-megapixel (f/2.4) depth sensing lens on the rear, backed by LED flash and AR mode. An 8-megapixel (f/2.0) front facing snapper is present for selfies. Vivo U1 boots Funtouch OS 4.5 based on Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box. For security, the smartphone offers a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner as well as face unlock. As for the connectivity, the phone offers 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0, and GPS. A beefy 4,030mAh battery completes the spec sheet of the handset.
