“The Vivo V11 Pro comes as a mid-range offering with an attractive ombre design and waterdrop notch”

The Chinese handset maker, Vivo has lately been the forerunner when it comes to innovation. From motorised components to an under-display fingerprint scanner, Vivo has already been there and done that. However, the brand has not given up on the mid-range segment yet, and has brought some of its flagship features to the more affordable bracket with the launch of Vivo V11 Pro (review). So how does the V11 Pro fare against the Vivo V9 (review), which was its predecessor and the first notch-toting Android phone to land in India? We compare the two siblings.

Vivo V11 Pro vs V9: what’s changed

The first thing that comes to notice is that the notch size has decreased considerably on the V11 Pro as compared to the V9. While the former comes with a waterdrop notch, the latter has a notch that is more along the lines of the iPhone X (review). Further, you can tell right away that the V11 Pro is a major upgrade over the V9, as it comes with an ombre back panel with gradiented hues. The Vivo V9, on the other hand, comes with a more subdued single tone design. Moreover, the predecessor comes with a fingerprint scanner right in the center of the rear panel, which is missing from the latest launch. This is because the Vivo V11 Pro comes with Vivo’s fourth generation under-display fingerprint scanner for security.

Speaking of the display, while there is not much difference in the size (6.4-inches on the V11 Pro vs 6.3-inches on the V9), the V11 Pro gets a much richer Super AMOLED display as compared to IPS LCD on the V9. Further, in the performance department, V11 pro comes with the Snapdragon 660 chipset backed by 6GB RAM. The Vivo V9, on the other hand, gets a Qualcomm Snapdragon 626 SoC with 4GB RAM to handle the performance. Needless to say, the recent processor on the V11 Pro is much better at striking a balance between performance and battery efficiency.

Moving on to the camera performance, the V11 Pro comes with a 12MP + 5MP setup on the rear panel, whereas, the V9 flaunts a 16MP + 5MP combination. While the V9 is slightly better on paper, we can expect imaging prowess to be the same on both handsets. As for selfies and video calling, the Vivo V11 Pro comes with one of the best in business – a 25MP unit. On the other hand, the Vivo V9 offers a 24MP selfie shooter.

Lastly, you get a beefy 3,400mAh battery powering the V11 Pro. On the other hand, the V9 comes powered by a 3,260mAh cell.

Now that we are done with the upgrades that V11 Pro brings over its predecessor, let’s take a look at what they in common. For starters, they both boot FunTouch OS based on Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box. Moving on, both the V11 Pro and V9 come with 64GB of native storage, which can be further expanded up to 256GB using a microSD card. The smartphones also share connectivity options including Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, GPS, 3.5mm jack, dual SIM, a dedicated microSD card slot and micro-USB port. However, we are hard-pressed to find any other similarities between these two smartphones.
