In this battery comparison between the Vivo V40 and Motorola Edge 50 Pro, we explore the differences. On paper, the Vivo V40 holds an advantage with its larger battery capacity, while the Motorola Edge 50 Pro stands out with faster charging speeds.

PCMark battery test

The PCMark test runs a series of tasks on the smartphone till the battery is dropped to 20 percent from 100 percent. The Vivo V40 with 80 percent brightness and 50 percent volume levels scored 13 hours during the test. The Motorola Edge 50 Pro, in contrast, achieved 12 hours and 30 minutes with similar settings.

Video streaming test

On our video streaming test, the Motorola Edge 50 Pro consumed roughly 60mAh more battery than the Vivo V40 after half an hour with 50 percent brightness and volume levels. In terms of percentage, the Edge 50 Pro’s 4,500mAh battery was reduced by 5 percent, whereas the Vivo smartphone consumed 3 percent of its 5,500mAh battery.

Gaming test

The test was conducted to assess the battery performance of smartphones during intensive activities such as gaming. The Vivo V40 used 16 percent (or 880mAh) of its battery life after playing BGMI, Call of Duty, and Real Racing 3 for 30 minutes each, with the brightness set at 80 percent and the volume at 50 percent. In contrast, the Motorola Edge 50 Pro’s battery dropped by 26 percent, or 1,170mAh, under the same conditions.

Charging test

When it comes to charging, the Vivo V40 takes roughly 35 minutes to achieve full charge from 20 percent with its 80W fast charger. With its charge boost feature, the Motorola Edge 50 Pro achieves 100 percent charge from 20 percent in just 16 minutes. However, there is a catch. You will have to buy a 12GB RAM variant to charge the device to its maximum 128W charging capability. The base 8GB RAM variant ships with a 68W charger.

Verdict

This concludes the battery comparison between the Vivo V40 and the Motorola Edge 50 Pro. The Vivo smartphone emerges as the clear winner, thanks to its larger 5,500mAh battery, compared to the 4,500mAh battery on the Motorola device. The only advantage of the Edge 50 Pro here is its 128W charging speed, which is available exclusively with the 12GB RAM variant.
