Vivo X Fold 5 full specifications leaked, will be thinner than predecessor

Highlights
  • The Vivo X Fold 5 will reportedly launch in the second half of the year.
  • It’s unclear if Vivo will stick to two models for its next-generation foldable.
  • The device will have the largest battery in a foldable phone.

Vivo is reportedly working on the next-generation of its foldable phone. The upcoming offering is expected to be called the Vivo X Fold 5 since the number ‘4’ is considered unlucky in some Asian regions. Now, a new report shares the key specifications of the device. Last year, the brand had launched the Vivo X Fold 3 and Vivo X Fold 3 Pro with only the latter making its way to global markets.

Vivo X Fold 5 key specifications

  • As per Xpertpick (via) citing tipster Yogesh Brar, the Vivo X Fold 5 is said to retain the 6.53-inch and 8.03-inch internal and external AMOLED displays respectively with 2K resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate
  • The foldable phone is said to be significantly thin measuring 4.3mm when closed and 9.3mm when open compared to the predecessor’s 4.7mm and 10.2mm respectively.
  • Under the hood, it will reportedly be powered by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC which is found on the X Fold 3 Pro (review).
  • This would still be an upgrade compared to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 on the X Fold 3.
  • The foldable phone is said to come in 16GB RAM and 512GB storage. We can expect more configurations at launch.
  • The Vivo X Fold 5 is tipped to be backed by a 6,000mAh battery cell compared to 5,500mAh and 5,700mAh present on the standard and pro models of the previous-generation foldable respectively.
  • If this is indeed true, then it will be the first foldable to be equipped with a huge battery capacity.
  • The report mentions support for 90W wired charging which is downgraded from 100W on the pro model but still upgraded from 80W on the vanilla variant.
  • It will also gain 30W wireless charging that was missing on the Vivo X Fold 3.
  • On the optics front, the Vivo X Fold 5’s internal and external displays are said to retain 32MP selfie cameras
  • The foldable phone will have triple rear camera setup with the same 50MP main and ultra-wide-angle lenses. The third unit will be a 50MP periscope sensor
  • The upcoming offering will continue to feature a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, alert slider, AI-driven features, and IP rating.

The Vivo X Fold 5 is first expected to launch in China and then in global markets. The Vivo X Fold 3 Pro debuted last June in India starting at Rs 1,59,999.
