Vivo is seemingly gearing up to launch a new series of flagship smartphones, succeeding its previous generation X80 lineup. Dubbed the Vivo X90 series, the smartphone portfolio is expected to be unveiled before the end of this year. While previous reports had claimed that this will happen shortly after Qualcomm launches its Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 flagship chip, it seems Vivo is instead waiting for MediaTek to unveil its own flagship chip, which would power the Vivo X90 series.

Vivo X90 launch time, chipset tipped

It is not clear if the entire Vivo X90 series is expected to be based on the new MediaTek chips. The Vivo X90 portfolio is expected to feature three models under its lineup — the standard X90, the mid-variant X90 Pro, and the flagship X90 Pro+. Based on what we have seen before, Qualcomm and MediaTek may share the duties powering the range.

According to WhyLabs on Weibo, the MediaTek Dimensity 9200 SoC, which is the flagship chip tipped to power at least one model in the Vivo X90 lineup, will feature Arm-designed Cortex X3 and Cortex A715 cores, while graphics duties on the chip would be handled by the Immortalis G715 GPU — offering hardware level ray tracing on the new chip.

The Dimensity 9200 SoC is expected to be unveiled in early November. The post claims the Vivo X90 series will be the first to launch with the new chip. This suggests the Vivo X90 series will launch by the end of the year.

As of now, the Vivo X90 Pro+ is tipped to feature a 1-inch image sensor, which is in line with the flagship portfolio’s focus on imaging. Other key features could be the presence of a 5,000mAh battery, along with 100W fast charging as well.

Until now, both the Vivo X90 and X90 Pro have been tipped to be powered by the upcoming Qualcomm chip, so it remains to be seen how the move pans out for the company.
